It's a great game, a little on the long side to be honest, with the first half being stronger than the second. The open world aspects were fun and I love the game's horror style that focuses on very memorable, small moments. The combat and stealth both feel good and is noticeably improved from the original. The story is a lot better and easier to follow. It's basically all you want in a sequel, and there's stuff to like if you did or didn't like the original.

Ratchet and Clank (PS2)

Never liked Ratchet. I dunno why. I think it's because he looks like an action figure. But decided to play this anyway. The game's better than I thought but I still don't love it. It's a platformer but there's more shooting than platforming. Which is fine I guess. Sometimes I really like the game, other times it's ugh. Also the checkpointing is cruel. But it's a neat game, with great graphics for the PS2 and I like the artstyle.

This year was year of platformers for me. I beat Sly1, Ratchet1, Jak1, Croc1&2, Crash3, Mario 64 and Spyro1 and Kao2. Fug. Never had any of these growing up except Croc 1 so this was like making up for that. Sly is my favorite.

Sly > Spyro > Mario 64 > Croc > Jak > Ratchet > Croc 2 > Kao2 > Crash 3

I think that's all from me this year. Gonna take a break

Might want to try later installments anyway. Some of the recent ones play really fluidly, and are definitely more forgiving than R&C1. Either Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time or the Ratchet and Clank Reboot for PS4 would be good options. Especially ACiT is great!

Pretty fun ARPG. The writing got pretty campy at times but it had some likable characters.

I'm not much of a puzzle fiend but I did go halfway the master dungeon before giving up. I'm all for moving block puzzles, but using portals AND dexterity come on. I want a thinking man's game not a race to grab the sliding block before it reaches the button.

I don't know if this game was bullshit because it was a GBC port or just because it's bullshit, but this game was bullshit at times. Still fun though, although I don't really have a big passion for platformers.

Yume Penguin Monogatari (Famicom)

A weird,but cute game. You play as a penguin named Penta who has to rescue his girlfriend, Penko with a catch: You have to stay thin and not get fat while you have to beat the level in a certain amount of time. It also has some shoot em' up levels.

Been waiting for a good follow-up from Legend of Grimrock. While it's more battle oriented, it's still the same dungeoneering goodness and its set in space. Double Plus!

The Grinch (Game Boy Color)

It plays like Pac-Man fused with Metal Gear.

Grinch can take out a bugle (it looks like) to knock out Whos with knock out gas while he collects the presents. He can also crawl on the ground to crouch over snowballs and he can make snowballs as well to stun the Whos. There are also some levels where you ride in a go-cart to collect presents as well.

There are also levels where you play as Max, his dog. He can jump over enemy dogs and he has a bark that can stun every dog on screen that's really helpful.

It just goes to show you when Konami acquires a license no matter how strange it is, they make it work somehow. The game was really good!

Mega Man Powered Up (PSP)

I was finally able to play and beat this for the first time and I loved it! It plays so good and it's full of personality. Playing as the other Robot Masters is really cool and it was a nice touch to play the game in Classic Style.

That was my way of celebrating Mega Man's 30th Anniversary!

Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos (NES)

I'm so happy I was finally able to beat this game after all these years.
This game is honestly not that bad when you put the time into it and get used to the perspective and the controls.
It feels very rewarding when you figure out a few stuff out and knowing how the Potions work in the right situations.

Gotta love the Title Screen theme.

Monument Valley 2 (Android)
It's still visually striking and satisfyingly tactile but I got to the end and felt like "That's it?" I remember the original as escalating the complexity more and going on for longer, not to mention the extra levels like the windmill and Forgotten Shores.

Nothing too special about it. Very simple platformer that's kinda fun.
