I started 2 new files
a dwarven necromancer. Mostly as a joke because that large tech buff I started with crippled my early magic usage.

And a gnome explosions expert. Who needs lock picking or pick pocketing when you can just sneak some dynamite on to unsuspecting people. I usually don't take sogg, but this build will probably take me some time to ramp up my thowing and prowling skills enough to make it on my own.

I failed my pacifist run last time so I might try that again.

I love all the choices you can make in this game and almost every point and choice has an effect.

Anyone else love this game?

Hah! Me too. I first beat it with a melee technologist some 10+ years ago. Now I'm going with a charismatic mage.

The usual Conveyance for Teleport and Force for Disintegrate. Beyond that Harm, Fire Flash, and Hasten. I might try Mental as well for crowd control or even Summoning

Some folks recommended Throwing since I'll be raising my Dexterity anyway for more action points.

I played through it once, found the combat very hard to get used to, and the story a bit boring, but otherwise loved the game mechanics and setting. I can remember that I was a tech guy, so I had no access to magic. I remember I had like 1 party member who ended up getting permanently aggroed in some dungeon so I had to abandon him. I did eventually manage to beat it, I think.

Come to think of it, there's not many of fantasy RPG games that combines steampunk and fantasy like this, is there? There's the Shadowrun series but I think that goes a little to far ahead. I always kinda described this game as Lord of the Rings during the Industrial Revolution.

My favorite aspect about the game is how most quests can be completed in multiple ways. If I need certain information from said character I can persuade him/her to give it up, do them a favor by doing a quest, kill said NPC and loot a note off his/her body, or pickpocket said note off the NPC.

Like with some RPGs, you can also play as a dumb character which makes the game so much more hilarious. In my friends case he played as an ugly half-Ogre battlemage with a background of "beaten with the ugly" stick. All the NPCs were horrified by my friend's character and he would simply beat down anyone who wouldn't cooperate.

Its a shame that so few people have played that game and that it never got a sequel.

That sounds like an amazing play through. How did the limited speach choices work while being that ugly?

I gotta play this again, last I remember I played was a dwarven flamethrower specialist....but that is literally all I can remember (been a very long time). I did re-get it on GoG though, so I wouldn't need to load it on my computer with the discs anymore at least.

Might play that a bit more soon:)

I am not sure exactly and I don't think my friend remember 100% other than him playing an ugly half-Ogre battlemage.

Decided to see what would happen if I was a half orc raised in the pits. The dialogue is hilarious. Virgil can't stop insulting you in the opening monolouge and I got killed when I told constable owens he was stinky and his wife was stinky too.

I guess I'm going to have to grab this game now since it seems delightfully...malleable.

Of course being me, my first run thru is going to be some sort of charismatic rogue or elven archer...then I'm going to have to get weird with it.

I do love how baffled Virgil is that the Living One was reincarnated in an imbecile.

I recommend following this YouTube guide to get the game fixed up and running well on newer OSes. I myself am playing it on Windows 10 at 1920 x 1080 resolution and for the most part it is running smoothly. There are still the occasional odd ball freeze-ups and other old bugs.

My laptop is still running Vista so I think I'm good there, but GoG keeps having problems with my card and I'm loathe to open steam for the first time in like 3 years.

Yeah, steam is still broken for me so it looks like I may just have to give up at this point.
