great tune. i loved the quirky electronic drums, the melodies, the instrumentation and the subtle buildup. i would have liked for the melodies to have been a bit less sparse and i feel like the drums were a bit too loud and overpowering compared to the melodies. in a weird way this tune harkens back to innovation - the song you did in week 1 - as i made the exact complaint about that one. but yeah, those minor negatives aside, i was really into this.

weird song; it's a mix of stuff i like and dislike so i'll probably contradict myself when critiquing it. on the negative side, i don't mind cutesy songs but this takes it a bit too far in the kawaiiness for me - this literally sounds like the theme song to some "isn't learning the ABC fun?" edutainment show. also, i hated the brief rap sections; i can't stand it when female pop singers do a horrible attempt at rapping (one of the most famous examples of this is taylor swift's shake it off - whenever i hear that "MY EX-MAN BROUGHT HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND" section i want to kill myself). (i hate it when male pop singers do this too, for the record, but female pop singers seem to do it more often.) on the positive side, i loved the instrumentation and the melodies are pretty good - i loved the breakdown at 1:57. overall i liked it but i feel like i would have hated it if it had more aspects that annoyed me.

i did not like this mix - the beat was mixed so loudly that i could barely make out what freddie gibbs was rapping. then i looked up the lyrics and i realized it was probably for the better, because these lyrics are pretty crappy. don't care for his delivery either. i do love the beat, though. with a better mix and a better MC rapping over the beat this could have been a fantastic song, but as it is it's just above average for me.

i listened to this on spotify because the YT video didn't work for me. i was wondering when you were going to do an autechre track! i loved the first minute or so of this, but at around the 5 minute mark i got kinda bored. i prefer it when this kind of glitchy music is more melody based and less elecronic drums/perucssion based. also, it was kind of wandering aimlessly. i don't necessarily mind that in music, but in this case i think some kind of climax would have worked better. not going to say this was terrible as i do think this is interesting music with a lot of thought put into it, but i wasn't a huge fan of this.

i've listened to all QotSA albums except for the last two, so this song i hadn't heard yet. i think of QotSA as a "standard rock band" - no weird time signatures, no 6-minute instrumental interludes, just straight rock music. i would have liked for the drumming to have been a little less plodding but other than that i enjoyed this song. it's about what i expected from them.

gotta disagree with your assessment of 2pac's beats, as i think his beats are often great! in fact, the beat is the main reason i'm going to say this was a great song. also, i like pac as a rapper. he didn't have the best technique or lyrics, but his flow/delivery had a calming quality to it that i've always enjoyed. definitely a candidate for my favorite song this week!

at this point i've probably made clear how i feel about harsh vocals. this is like vibetech in that whatever good music this has is ruined for me by the vocals. i will say that this was more musically interesting than vibetech, though. i don't share mycro's love for weird time signatures tbqh - sure, it's nifty when a song uses them but it's not a major positive for me - so the time signature stuff in vibetech didn't do that much for me. but uh yeah, i thought this song was really bad.

I enjoyed the technicaly instrumentals greatly but there was something about the vocals I didn't like, I think they were too all over the place.

Wine, Women, and Song- classic cheese that only an 80s hard rock band such as whitesnake could do, but it's a fun song. The main melody and feel of the song is very standard but it's still a good one.

Spider- good for prep for Halloween! Sounds like Missingno took over Lavender Town. Gets into a rhythm after a bit but not exactly something I'd listen to again.

Build It Up- I swear the singer is almost exactly like the notebook from that dont hug me im scared video, so I was waiting the entire time for this to get super fucked up. It didn't, but it was quite a journey. Strangely catchy, definitely not traditional.

To Pluto's Moon- I liked the hints of it going kind of hard with the beat, it was a cool juxtaposition to the singer's voice and kept it interesting.

Thuggin- aaaayyyy freddie gibbs. Chorus could be stronger but the verses are tight. The Arizona line was fuckin niceeeeee.

V-PROC- I can't help but think of Session from Linkin Park even though this is obviously more crafted. Goes on a bit long for my tastes, but it's intriguing throughout. Even the ending half with how it starts to break up almost and stutter, while not something I'd really want to listen to casually, is pretty cool.

If I Had a Tail- just a super smooth, quality QotSA song. I particularly like the way Josh uses his falsetto, in general, so that part especially hits right with me.

Valyrie III: Atonement- I'm at a weird spot with the vocals where they aren't bad but they could be a lot stronger, very middling to me. Overall the song was kind of just there.

Keep Ya Head Up- a classic even in the message and theme of the song alone, and then add in that sweet sweet ooh child chorus and you got yourself a fuckin song.

Crossing the Rubicon- just straight up good prog metal mixed with metalcore. I've also known about them for a bit, I feel like steiner and I discussed them at some point in the past. Unclean vocals especially are on point.

Transpose- another song with just a really solid main melody. Very catchy.
