They did it to spite Inafune They also had no idea how to bring Mega Man into the 3D realm tbqh They tried to make it kind of an adventure/shooter with Legends, it didn't take off. They tried to go straight 3D shooter with X7, it was clunky and didn't take off. Went back to old style with X8, people complained it was too much like the old ones, didn't take off. Like, they were getting pretty desperate at that point I think. Don't forget that at one point *this* was considered for the future of Mega Man.  I think after the handheld titles started to lag sales wise (Powered up and Maverick Hunter X at least) they just kind of gave up. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

That FPS looks like fun, but in hindsight everyone would have shit all over it for being too gritty and real.
Honestly, looking back at what Mega Man and Mega Man X were, it's surprising that they didn't take it to a First Person Shooter as the core mechanics of the game are shooting and dodging. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
