It's legit one of the best RPGs of the 21st century.

Great game and a steal at that cost.

It is bioware though so if you don't like looooooooooooooong conversations and plot you will hate it.

This is a "Talk to everyone for 10 minutes then kill the spider" game not a "Kill spiders for 10 minutes then talk to someone" game.

Matter of opinion obviously but I'd say a Rogue and a Dual-weilding rogue.

It's the most fun and you get to open locked chests.

Mage is fun too and OP.

Warrior is boring.

Just note: This game has 6 different origin stories depending on the character you pick

Warrior classes are extra boring in Origins and you get three warriors plus a warrior esque character in your party. Pick one of the others tbh.

Also, avoid the Dalish Elf Origin. Some people like it but it's largely considered the worst origin and it might turn you off from the game like it almost did me.

Yeah this always seemed weird to me because I think it's great and I think Human Noble is boring and generic as hell.

but the fanbase loves boring generic Human Orgin and loathes actually interesting/different Dalish Origin.

Bioware seemed to notice this though as they filled Witch-hunt, Dragon Age 2 and 3 with references to the Dalish Origin. As if they were trying to make up for it's irrelevance in DA:Origins.

Best origin is definitely female city elf, though.

Dalish wasn't exactly any less cliche, it certainly wasn't more interesting to most people. It also doesn't fit into the story as well as pretty much every other origin.

I guess but you won't get to become a duelist until quite far into the game. At least first time playing.

I disagree immensely but won't argue why as I don't want to fill this topic with spoilers.

Very true. It is kinda funny how they work all 5 other origins into the main plot, including the 2 other origin stories that were never completed. and yet just sorta forget about the Dalish.

As I said Bioware seemed to scramble to make up for it in the later installments.

Dalish Elf
Dwarven Noble
Dwarven Commoner

There was supposed to be two more:

Barbarian and Human commoner.

But they were scrapped for time.

There are mods but not many as it was a lot harder to mod than say Skyrim.

A lot of people reccomend any of the skip the fade mods as the fade is pretty dull on repeat playthroughs.
But first time round it is good.

I think there is also a popular bug-fixing mod that corrects a lot of the very minor issues.

People prefer PC. I have only played it on the 360 and thougjt it worked perfectly there anyway. I don't know anything about the mods but there are bound to be some great ones. Awakening expansion is a lot buggier than the initial game so when you get to that point, there will probably be some bug fixing mods for it.

I liked the Fade and enjoyed it even in replays but a lot if people do find it tedious on replays. I also liked Orzammar but it gets pretty exhausting on replays because it's so ridiculously long. It's crazy how much longer it is than the others. It's also the most interesting though so there's that.

The Developers expected people to do it last.

And I think a lot of people didn't realize you can leave and come back.

It is a slog if you're like me and just like to do it one big go but I think a lot of people enjoy it more if they do it in parts and then keep leaving to side quests and stuff.

I don't recall any story justification for leaving Orzammar but the game definitely wanted to have you take a break mideay through Redcliffe and then do the Mage's Tower before going back and finishing Redcliffe. I think it's neat how many different ways you can tackle all those storylines.

God, such a great game.

Definitely true but the one healer you do get is more than good enough so I wouldn't actually recommend another one unless you plan on not getting that mage.

That game is certainly not easy your first time through when you don't understand the mechanics behind everything so a healer is pretty friggin helpful.

But yeah, look into understanding potions and traps and such more when you're playing, TC. Traps are kind of a novelty in most cases but potions are pretty much essential on high difficulties.

No.

Bizarrely they never fixed it in Origins or 2

Then in 3 they did patch it out but only like several months after the game came out.

No idea why, its a single player game and after the same oversight was in all 3 games I thought it was intentional. Apparently it was not, they just made the same mistake 3 times and it took them like a decade to fix it.

That said it's a lot more of a pain in the ass on the PC than on consoles to do it

Eh, if you say so. I know I had to drop down to Hardcore when I tried to play the Redcliffe section and stayed there my first time through. And that damn wolf random encounter right at the beginning of the game with all the traps... and all the stupid monsters with Overwhelm? Yeah, hard af. Once you understand the game it's a cakewalk, but I know I didn't have a good handle on it my first playthrough.

Matter of opinion obviously but I'd say a Rogue and a Dual-weilding rogue.

It's the most fun and you get to open locked chests.

Mage is fun too and OP.

Warrior is boring.

This is all spot on, as they say. Rogue with double enchanted daggers, striking out of stealth, was too cool. Mage had very effective crowd control and AOE took care of groups I should not have been able to attack because they were in other rooms. (I don't know if they ever patched that out.)

I think if your argument is "I had to change the difficulty from very hard to hard on the hardest parts of the game on my first playthrough!" just demonstrates that the game is pretty damn easy.

Mages are OP pretty much by default and Dual Rogues aren't far behind.

Surprised the wolves and traps encounter got you. I don't remember those traps meaning a thing, and a rogue can disarm them all anyway

Now The Harvester on Nightmare with a non OP class, yeah thats difficult.

But Origins? Nah.

I've always liked the Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage combo. AW requires a bunch of sustained spells, so your mana pool is of limited value anyway, and increasing CON benefits both specs.

That's a distinct matter of opinion. Most games I play, I am able to play on the highest difficulty and never have to change. That wasn't the case for this one, so I said it was hard.

And that encounter was super early in the game, you can't actually see those traps yet depending on how early you get it so it's absolute torture.
