with an emphasis on the italics in the title

the sounds and visuals of the movie was intense. i could have easily continued watching for another couple of hours

not too sure about jared leto though

this is coming from a guy who's been to the cinema three times in the past 3 days @Two_Dee. i've seen a french anime film, a brooklyn coming of age film and blade runner was easily the best

why not sure on story?

i feel like these modern day sequel to old films have certain tropes they go through in regards to story (e.g bring back old characters, family tie ins from previous films)

i saw it last night and i, too, really enjoyed it.

great film.

i thought there was too much action and sometimes the music was too edgelord for me, and Jered Leto's character was sort of annoying, but otherwise very good.

i like how we still don't know if Deckard was a replicant or not

Too much action? Lmao there was like 4 whole scenes that had any sort of action in it.

I didn't like the pregnancy angle. Though I suppose that comes down to what you consider replicants. Androids with skin or programmable humans created in a lab.

It was a beautifully executed piece of art. But the content didnt justify the run-time imo. I was already waiting for the movie to end by the time he found Harrison Ford.

Also the climax was kind of awkward. You'd think potential drowning would be really tense, but it was actually just awkward lol.

I actually agree on the too much action. the junkyard scene was cool but I felt like it could have done without an action scene there. although I see the flip side that people said it would have been too boring

the music was spot on though, it reminded me of interstellar

I lol'd at the holographic dancers on the streets. that was intense

when the 3D pink haired woman came out of the side of the building and pointed at gosling, that was incredible. to feel so small with a hologram that large

aesthetics was on point

I didn't like the pregnancy angle.

I was reading some reviews that said the film should have touched more on Joi/K romance, replicants uprising, and the blackout. which I kinda agree with, or at least should have featured more promimently. but baby replicants angle was also intriguing since it kept the idea going of (if) deckard is a replicant going and if his sole purpose was to have a baby

i'd watch the first one before getting into 2049 just to see if you enjoy the series, rather than missing out on the narrative. story wise you're fine not watching the first, but there's some cool parts you'd enjoy if you did see #1

the reason why I say this is because blade runner is like marmite. you either love it or hate it, and it's not a film for everyone

Deckard was alive at a time when all replicants had a max lifespan of 4 years.

Suggesting he is a replicant is stupid.

He's also explicitly not an android in the book.

Doesn't matter. You're told with scrolling text at the beginning that older androids had really short lives.

Oh definitely, I wasn't battling that point. I was just saying that the book isn't a good argument.

Both of the movies had references to him possibly being a replicant if you take them in a certain way. While it's a more believable hint in the first one, it doesn't fit much in 2049 with Deckard being old. I think Jared Leto's character was either speaking about religion/destiny/aliens or just trying to fuck with Deckard. Some people could try to ass-pull and claim that this Deckard isn't the same one as in the original movie or some other plot-holish shit, but I'd see that as bad writing. I think that it was mostly a reference to the long-running Deckard Replicant theory more than an actual plot point.

2049 is a good example of successfully rebooting an older franchise without it pandering or missing the mark

total recall, robocop, the force awakens, terminator genisys are examples of how easily you can mess up a franchise
