Isn't that the port where they screwed up the fundamental fog effect that hides things from sight because they now had the power to show them even though the game is designed around things being hidden?

So according to the wiki, it's because the VA for James wanted residuals from the new release, so Konami just hired new VA's. Not sure how true that is considering I doubt they had very complex contracts back in the day for VA's.

I suspect that while Guy Cihi may have requested residuals, if he didn't have a contract that had wording in there about future releases and such (which it probably didn't given the time the game was released), then he wouldn't have a claim. I bet they just decided to hire professional voice actors to try and bolster sales. Just a box they could tick when trying to hype the release up.

It just seems really far fetched that they'd go through so much trouble of not paying the original actor, which Troy baker pretty much says they weren't going to have to do any way because there wasn't a contract. Unless I'm reading that paragraph wrong, but unfortunately a lot of the links to the articles are down.

Mary Elizabeth McGlynn was approached by Konami to direct the re-dub. The reason for the re-dub was due to Guy Cihi requesting residuals for the multiple ports and re-releases of Silent Hill 2 as he claimed that he owned the rights to James's voice and motion capture. McGlynn, Troy Baker and Thessaly Lerner refuted this, stating that Guy did not own James's voice and motion capture and that his performance was always owned by Konami; this was the reason Konami never paid Guy for residuals. No written contract between Guy and Konami was available.

In a letter to Konami, Guy stated that it was not about the money but rather "the thoughtless way that those involved in the production have been treated" such as not notifying him of any re-releases and hiding his contributions in "The Making of Silent Hill 2" video. Guy also called for Konami to allow the original voices and give fans the option to choose between the original dub and the re-dub. Guy's close connection with fans of the series played a strong part in his decisions regarding these issues. Monica Taylor Horgan supported giving fans an option as well.

They screwed it up by somehow making it render as a flat circle around the player with a fog texture along the wall instead of an actual fog. It's less that they got rid of the fog and more that they somehow made it look even worse.
