I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but as near as I can tell the ratings went from something like 8-9 million per episode in Season 7 (which is about on par with the previous few seasons) and dropped to around 5-6 million after Steve Carrell left. I mean, the whole show is absolutely amazing (I had never fallen in love with a show as fast as I have The Office) but I say seasons 5 and 6 are the low point. Not that they're bad of course.
