The gastric bypass will help eventually. He tries to eat anything for awhile he's going to puke his guts up. I have known people who had the surgery, it ain't fun the first few weeks out. Watch him bust that lap band though

He has been working to lose weight over the past like 7-8 years now.

However, due to his mental health problems, he's had consistent problems keeping it off.

Tack on physical problems with his back, knees, and legs, plus other health problems like diabetes(and the complications that can lead to), and he's found it hard to keep the weight off.

People on CE like to act like it's as simple as just doing it but he has a laundry list of issues and tendencies that have made it hard for him to simply do any of the things they suggest.

I'm not saying he is faultless. He is more than at fault for all of his issues.However, you can't just ignore his issues and act like he can lose it all whenever he wants to.

I'm not making an apples to apples comparison here, but it's like expecting a heroin addict to, through sheer will, go cold turkey and have no issues with it and be able to do it all on their own

I made this point in another topic, but the honey boo boo mom was able to go from a disgusting weight, to a point where she looks like a healthy normal human being, in record time. And she was a pretty degenerate low iq idiot. So its pretty hard to make excuses for a guy that has blatantly indulged in fetish eating, on camera no less, over god knows how many years.

If he can pull this off, great good for him. But making excuses for him is stupid. He dug himself into this hole all on his own. He had a million chances to get help for his issues since he's int he public eye and goddamn experts offered to help him for free, and he refused. Its pretty apparent the only reason he got this surgery was because he was most likely told he'll be legit dead in a year or two if he doesn't cut the bullshit and get his fucking life together already.

I don't disagree with you. However, I think it's disingenuous to ignore his laundry list of issues(mental, physical, and otherwise). Ultimately, he has inflicted this on himself. And he has reinflicted it, time and time again. He acknowledges that. He doesn't just go "I don't know how it keeps happening to me". He's fully aware. Internally he probably has a lot of self loathing about the whole situation.

At least now he is taking a (hopefully) permanent step to getting better.

and if he doesn't then I don't think he'll be alive long enough for us to hate him for too long for failing.

I mean hey, I hope he turns over a new leaf and gets his life together. If he does, good on him and i'll be happy for the guy. I'm just more than skeptical because i've been around more than my fair share of weak willed people that self excuse and enable themselves at every turn, and even when hitting rock bottom fail to fix their lives. But! If he can do it, good for him. Just his track record doesn't suggest he has the conviction or willpower necessary to succeed given the regiment one has to commit to to make gastric bypass surgery actually work in really losing that kind of weight. The guy needs a literal drill sergeant tier live-in trainer that controls his life to a T, anything less and he's gonna relapse.
