Yes, I am referring to taxonomy and not biology. So we're all slime? (or whatever single celled phenotype we evolved from that I don't know)

well... we're all eukaryotes, yes

but there's monophyletic, polyphyletic, and paraphyletic groups, which determine whether it makes sense to include descendents or ancestors or not. I'm not sure of the details.
