eating4fun 07/21/17 11:03:56 PM #1:	Named the Jewish autonomous Oblast located in bumfuck nowhere of far east Russia. This province was cut from territory that was ceded by China when the Qing dynasty was in freefall. In early Soviet Union days, Russian Jews were granted this territory to pursue cultural autonomy within a socialist framework. Jewish population compromised 25% of the territory at it's height. Why? Seriously? Why. It's the desert? Is the value of desert realty really that important. Why does this matter. Other than religion. I get that there is a belief factor here but no one fights so hard unless there is serious value and money involved. Because that question basically answers itself. There's the Negev Desert in the south, yes, and the reason why in the second week of November 1947 Chaim Weizmann asked Truman to twist the UN's arm to make sure the Negev was included in the land awarded to Israel under the partition plan was because Weizmann recognized the importance of Akaba for access to the Indian Ocean.
