I've considered it, but my doctor said it wouldn't help.

Probably not, I don't really like the idea of anything touching my eyeball. Also why I would never wear contacts.

Thankfully I have almost 20-20 vision so hasn't been a concern yet.

I wanted LASIK. Contacts were very uncomfortable for me. They would slip off-center during the day, dry out, or get kinda gooey when my allergies were bad. If I got dust in my eye, sometimes the dust would get stuck underneath the contact, and I'd have to take it out and wash it. It was just really annoying. Glasses also distort everything since they're farther from the back of your eyes.

Since I'm 23 and have a strong prescription/astigmatism, I was not a candidate for LASIK. My corneas are thinner than most, and there would be a high chance of macular degradation in my 40s. Instead, I got ICL- Implantable Collamer Lenses, which are collagen lenses they install behind your cornea through a 2mm incision.

The surgery was totally painless. You'll usually be given both Valium and 6 rounds of numbing eye drops for any corrective surgical procedure. You won't feel a thing, and you'll be relaxed. Almost every LASIK center in the country does bladeless LASIK now, so you don't have to worry about having your eyes cut. They will draw on your eyes with a marker though so they know where to use their laser.

I highly recommend corrective surgery. My vision is the best it's ever been, and it's so much more comfortable than before. Really astounding.

I already have perfect vision (which is somehow rare on this board? wtf...?), so why would I?

If I could afford it, my uncle got it and he says best money he has ever spent bar none. He would reccommend it to anyone under 40. Even over 40 he says they should consider it.

Most of this board stares at screens for over 7 hours a day.

I had LASIK done 5 years ago, vision is still great. Didn't even have a strong prescription (my worst eye was - 3.5). Best money I've spent on myself. Worth it to not have to wear glasses or contacts.

The only real downside is that now I do get dry eyes and need to use eye drops with some regularity. I also live in a fairly dry climate. It might not be an issue in humid places.

No one actually touches your eyes. It's all done remotely with lasers. And they give you valium if you're nervous, and it's a confusing but overall happy experience. I mostly remember how nice it was they had cookies in the office and how ugly the recovery glasses were.

Given that most of my workday is spend in front of a computer (which is true of most people working white collar jobs, as well as some pink collars) and then I go home where I spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer, that's also true of me yet my vision is fine.

I got LASIK surgery in March and it was one of the best thing I've ever done! I was -4.0 in both eyes. I technically got PRK because I have thin corneas, so it took longer to heal and stabilize my vision compared to standard LASIK.

Four months later and my eyesight is perfect.

Sometimes I do because it would make me more attractive, but I see fine with my glasses, so I'd rather not take even a small risk of my eyes getting messed up.

I got it. I had to constantly put eye drops every 30 minutes because my eyes were so dry. After a few months, it went back to normal but it was extremely annoying.

I'm curious as to when the LASIK surgeries were performed. I would have never considered LASIK before 2010, and it was downright risky in the '90s.

I'm at an age now where it's sort of discouraged for being kind of pointless. LASIK is more of a younger person's operation (especially since it sort of wears off after a while in most people).

That being said, my mother just had cataract removal surgery that turned her terrible life-long nearsightedness into almost 20/20 distance vision (ironically, she has to wear glasses for close things now) as a side-effect, so I'm looking forward to 20 years from now or so when I need to have cataracts removed and I can see clearly without glasses again.
