I have 2 variables, x and y. Sometimes x goes into the negatives, and when it does, this equation is supposed to kick in and correct it up to y amount giving me z.

Examples:
If x is -2 and y is +2, then z should be +2.
If x is -1 and y is +2, then z should be +1.
If x is -3 and y is +2, then z should be +2.
If x is +2 and y is +2, then z should be 0.

Anyone have an equation for this? Did I make sense?

Sorry, I knew my explanation was bad. z isn't supposed to do anything at the moment and is just the result. It's supposed to kick in later down the road. It's just I don't know how to get z to the right number. I'll edit the op.
