He had a biopsy done and got the results back, malignant cells in the tissue samples. I'm really sad and worried for my dad. I hope treatment works out for him. Don't know much at the moment. He's not in the best of moods or mindsets. The good news is he'll get the care he needs promptly and will not have to worry about losing his job or health coverage of any kind.

Prostate cancer, stage unknown currently.

Sorry that he has to deal with that. Hopefully it's still early and will be simple to take care of. Stay positive.

Depends on what you have.

Not all cancers are treatable.

Yeah.

I'm hoping it'll treat easily. They caught it pretty early I think.

It was just unexpectedly crushing to learn that about a parent. It's really hard watching them get older and sicker.

I'm sorry to hear about this, but prostate cancer is very treatable and I hope for the best. My mom had stage 4 breast cancer and even with that she's been in remission now for two years. Cancer treatments have come a long way! Keep the hope alive.

I had cancer, and it was caught early on. I was able to have surgery that removed it. How early did your dad have it discovered?

If it's any consolation, my uncle had prostate cancer. He actually had been having symptoms for a while when he went to go see a doctor. They ran a bunch of tests on him (but no biopsies for some reason) and they couldn't find anything wrong with him.

A year later they found out it was cancer, but after going through the treatment he ended up coming out of it cancer free and living large.

It's one of the slowest moving forms of the disease and has a mortality rate of only 1/36.

Keep your head up fam.

Going through parental cancer is tough. My mom had breast cancer a few years ago. Chemo sucks and can cause other problems but it's better then dying. Luckily prostate cancer isn't as serious as it used to be. He will survive, and if chemo is necessary, don't sweat it.

My mom got breast cancer right after i lost a grandparents one on both sides. So that news hit me really hard. SO i know how devastating it can be emotionally. We are all here for you though.

Oh wow that's wonderful! I'm so happy for your mom.

The treatments have come a long way. I feel really shitty that I'm not closer to him and can't visit with him more.

More will be known next week, he was originally biopsied because of increasing Prostate-Specific Antigen levels in his blood. He gets regular checkups so they noticed the increase and sent him for biopsy to be safe. Then the malignant cells were found. I'm hopeful it was caught early.
