I work at.

Theres a customer who comes in our store and scams us multiple times a week. I dont feel like going into detail what she does, but she's been doing this for a while.

So, Ive been talking to loss prevention, and he monitors her, but she doesnt actually physically steal, so while he is trying to catch her, he hasnt had much luck. but he is taking it very seriously.

So, I talked to one of the managers in the store, and he said pretty much they're working on getting her banned but they cant mess up or itll look bad, she'll complain to higher ups and higher ups and then will be let back in to only screw us further. Kinda got a hopeful but ultimately safe answer.

So the other day LP was watching her(because she is crazy and frauds us. no other reason), she took offense, complained to a manager(new to our store, unaware of what shes been doing, etc), so he seemd sympathetic.

Now ive been told loss prevention can NO LONGER monitor her. He kinda has to ignore her. Which, to me sounds crazy. Like telling a cop he cant investigate a robbery because the crook might get upset.

So, I am going to write up a letter including all the offenses(not specific incidents, but generally) she commits, and I am going to have the LP guy, all the customer service managers, and several key cashiers who wait on her a lot, have them sign and initial the list, and I am going to speak with the head store manager, guy who's name is written on all the receipts and see what he does. I was going to speak to him regardless, but I figure so as to not waste his time I was going to come prepared. I am going to write how she costs us money, how she makes other customers wait longer in line because she ties us up with her BS which could result in lower survey scores. She is annoying, but I am going to make the effects of her actions clear. She frauds us, results in less bonuses for employees and as a result, unhappier customers because they have to wait behind a moron wasting our time.

I was told by the three people I asked(two customer service managers and LP) and they said thats a great idea. One however told me its a great idea but dont be surprised if nothing happens.

Oh well, can't hurt to try?

Anything is worth a shot. Although I personally wouldn't give a shit or risk my job over trying to prove a customer is doing wrong when the higher ups don't care.

I dont really feel like getting into it which I know is boring but I so far have eight bullet points of shit she constantly does to us and im coming up with more.

I am going to type up a draft, proofread it/stew on it tomorrow, then think about it some more, then when i feel I have a complete copy in my hands, going to go into the store and over the course of a few days get signatures from all the customer service managers, service desk employees, loss prevention, and select cashiers who know what she is up to(comes in mainly at night...daylight people might not see her).

Giving a letter to the store manager probably won't do any thing. It sounds like your AP team is collecting evidence. There are procedures that need to be followed for stuff like this, and there needs to be proof. It's not an instant "Gotcha bitch!" thing

I didnt make this topic for attention, I was just frustrated but also hopeful I've found what could be a solution.

As far as what she does, without going into super detail she passes off coupons for the wrong item, returns items that are tampered thus we cant resell(tide watered down, expensive soap in a sealed box with cheaper soap inside), comes into the store and if she doesnt get what she wants comes back in later when new employees are working and can get it....stuff like that. There is more but thats a basic rundown. Person is likely on meth all the time and always gets antsy when we tell her we cant do something, threatens to call corporate, etc.

Management teams in the past have actually told us to not do anything, give her what she wants to she is happy. The current LP guy and management team seem interested in getting her banned, but I was recently told the LP guy made her feel uncomfortable so he cant watch her any more, which is absurd.

Sure, there is a process they need to follow, I dont expect this letter to immediately lead to a ban, but at least it should make mgmt aware of how serious the problem is.

when I worked in a grocery store this woman would always come in, spend like a half hour walking around this inky dink store, then buy a pack of gum.

her purse would be bulging as she walked out of the store. like, I get it. everything in that store was expensive as fuck for no reason other than it was the only store in town. a loaf of bread was $2 or $3, a gallon of milk was $5 or $6. it was fucking dumb.

but don't fucking steal. she didn't need to steal, either. she wore designer clothes, drove a new that year model car, ect.

I think if it is made know how she screws your company over and others corroborate your story, there will be no reason for anyone to allow her to continue to come in there. Telling the people above you about it before anything is actively done also prevents any shock that may occur if it goes sour. Lastly: people tend to go with the first thing they hear and use the process of elimination to weigh its truth later, against any dissenting arguments. The first one to get a word in has a better chance at swaying the conversation.
