Zhou Cang was the first character confirmed for DW9, but his previous renders were for Musou Stars. This is the first we've seen of him in DW9 form. Which is pretty much the exact same thing, but hey, I figured I'd add it in anyways.

I'll be honest, I'm not that big a fan of the new designs. Man Chong looks good.

Lu Bu doesn't look bad, but the only thing I really like is the hairstyle.

is the game going to have a dub? and is xiao dun going to have a scimitar again?

hope its not like samurai 4 where you can switch between characters (too easy). also dont want story mode where you have to pick different characters

All of the mainline Dynasty Warriors games have had dubs and this is their most ambitious title yet. The only thing that might not get dubbed is Empires and XL(although 8XL was dubbed).

Xiahou Dun has had his old weapon since 7E. None of the Dynasty Warriors games or spinoffs have had character switching like WO and the latest SW games. And the open world format doesn't exactly lend itself too well to such a mechanic.

As for Story Mode, we have limited details. It's open world and you do play a single character's story(I'm just going to assume most of them are cut and paste, outside of some dialogue). One of the things they mentioned having difficulty with was switching characters in the same playthrough, since characters will start and end at the appropriate time. For example, Wang Yuanji appears much later than after Cao Cao's story ends, so switching from Cao Cao to Wang Yuanji or vice versa isn't that feasible.

They're also having difficulty implementing co-op, but it hasn't been completely ruled out yet.

As for the game being too easy, I feel like I can go ahead and say this isn't for you. Dynasty Warriors games haven't been difficult since DW6. 7 and 8 are cakewalks.

Also, for those who haven't followed pre-release Dynasty Warriors in the past, we're at the point where we should be receiving batches of characters every two weeks. Each time, there will be scans of ~4-6 characters and shortly after that, we should start seeing official high-res renders before the next set of scans leak.

It's nit-picky, but I don't like too many non-Chinese influences in my Dynasty Warriors :P

I hated DW7 Ma Chao for that reason. He looked too European. I also hate joke and hollywood weapons like Ling Tong's nunchaku because I'm no fun.

And as far as characters go, Gan Ning's been my guy since forever. Because he is/was an asshole and it's awesome. But also because his look just rings with me.

They were a farmer's weapon used to try and fend off samurai. Which didn't work out for them.

I might be wrong about the samurai bit(can't remember), but this from its wikipedia page:

"Allegedly adapted by Okinawan farmers from a non-weapon item, it was not a historically popular weapon because it was ineffective against the most widely used weapons of that time, and few historical techniques for its use still survive."

i don't imagine nunchucks are going to really stop a samurai from attacking from a distance with a bow, which is what samurai predominately did.

and just because something failed doesn't mean they're a joke weapon.

if you have a stick and you're going up against a dude with a gun, you're going to fail. does that mean the stick is a useless weapon and shouldn't ever be considered again?

Oh, I see what you're saying. The main issue with DW6 wasn't necessary the weapons themselves, but the uninspired animations. Zhou Tai actually used a different weapon entirely than Xiahou Dun, who got a spiked cudgel; essentially a giant kanabo. In Dynasty Warriors 7, Zhou Tai got his katana and Iaijutsu moveset back and he's kept it ever since.

But yes, I liked that Zhou Tai and Ling Tong more lol

I loved that Ling Tong, because he actually wore a bit of armor.

6 was super easy. the tomes were even stronger than normal musou attacks.

6E was easy.

AI was quite a bit more aggressive in 6 and player damage scaling was particularly bad. Of course, certain characters trivialized the game, such as SSX.

i had zero problems in 6 after a couple levels (on harder diff.) on normal i had zero problems from the start. i had played 2-5 before that with (im fairly sure) a few hundred hours combined (maxed about 12 people in 3) so maybe that was why it was easy

I just might be remembering 6 a bit differently. But yeah, DW3's probably my most played game of all time and I put no small chunk of time in 4 and 5, as well.

I just remember damage on Chaos being kind of crazy and you made to keep mistakes down to a minimum because of it(which was hard, in the case of the duels where someone could poke you).

6 changed a lot of people, and 7 for the most part, reverted those changes.
