This auction is for one 2009 Series A $100 bill with the unique serial number of LA05666777 and is a star note. The bill is in good, but not great condition. It is gently circulated and the corners have some wear. it has a slight wallet fold. Somebody stamped ink at the top of the bill, refer to the pictures to see. This bill is a star note and also has a bad luck/good luck vibe with the serial number of 666 and 777. It is also a ladder, going 0, 5, 6, 7.

Okay, so the auction is live. no bites yet.

As far as other currency, I broke a personal record. before today, the most of one number ive seen in a serial was five, today ive hit six

20 dollar bill serial 11111214

Hm.

So I have 20 views, two watchers and one bid of 105.

So I am guaranteed to make five bucks on it. I feel like I could have set the starting bid at 110 and get the same results but oh well. Now to see if people want to bid on it. Somebody wants it, so there is a market out there but lets see how it goes. 8 days left so it could rise.

Doesn't eBay take a crapload of your money, therefore you'd be losing money if it sold for that amount?

This listing was free.

Though I opted to pay for shipping, perhaps stupidly, because i wanted to further entice people.

This is my first ever listing you live you learn i guess.

How do you list things for free? I've never sold anything on eBay before, but my friends that sold crap on it told me eBay screws you in the butt without any lube.

You can list 50 things for free, I think. But you get charged a "final value" fee when things are sold, which is 10% of the sale price IIRC.

I actually dont know. it says somehow i have 50 free listings in july. I guess some new to listing bonus?

There are a lot of people who sell rarer yet common currency such as star notes for 1-3 dollars above face value, so it must be making them some money somehow

Well not entirely. I dont want the bill to get ruined during shipping so im going to buy some clear bill sleeves(which arent expensive though only sold in bulk of 50 or 100) then likely a small bubble mailer.

shipping wont be too outrageous but next time ill pass it onto the consumer.

If you're shipping $100 you probably should at least do a label with tracking so that the buyer can't say they didn't get it and then pocket a free $100. Maybe insurance too, but that's probably a lot more expensive and at that point you'll almost definitely lose money on it.

Those are things I also never considered, stupidly.

Ultimately I will learn from this. I have a lot of other bills I want to sell, but we'll see what happens. I might lose some on this hundred via learning, but in the future I will be smarter.

several things point to collector value

-star note
odd serial(ladder throughout and also 666777)
lower serial(not super low but one zero at the beginning)

i do not have a home run here but this is the kind of shit currency collectors look out for. sure theres nothing special depending on your definition but this is collectble to a certain group of numismatists

Two bids now, up to 107.50.

I hope it keeps going but it is reassuring with two bids, and one spending over minimum, these bills(which I have $252 of I can potentially sell stacked up - most from work) do have some value. Though I cant celebrate too soon this is good.

Another factor, I knew going in though, is hundreds with weird serial numbers dont sell too well, because the average collector cannot hoarde them like they can ones or fives. Hundreds would likely be best if you have a full solid or low, low serial number(under ten), but for other denominations the lesser shit can sell.

This sounds like a really desperate and inefficient way to make some extra cash

I've sold stuff on eBay, but just things I don't want anymore. It gives me a little money back on them and it frees up some space. You aren't doing either of those with these bills

I am not hurting for money - after all, I have 252 saved up plus $100 in quarters I havent cashed in.

This is reassuring because my bank account is higher than average cause ive been spending less, then i remember i still have 350 dollars in physical cash.

This is not going to make me rich. I could get lucky and get a bill I could make hundreds or thousands of, such as 00000001, or 77777777 or so, which is virtually impossible, but the excitement in checking is there. For free I get to play the lottery, hundreds of times a day

I dont plan on becoming rich but i think this is a fun way to potentially make some extra bucks.

And also, when i look for coins im looking for silver coins. found two so far, for free. sure, worth about two dollars in silver between them, but I could stack up over the years. Again not rich but free money worth more than face value. wish i was doing this all along, i bet so much silver has passed through my damn hands(but not three peace dollars and one morgan dollar somebody either ignorant or kind, paid with once. spot price right now means i made like 45 dollars for four bucks

You don't have a lot of money. Just hold onto it and keep saving. Trying to sell money is one of the stupidest things ever.

Maybe he's under 18. When I was in high school I didn't have a crazy amount of money but I wasn't really using it. I always had those stupid bonds from when I was a kid but I cashed those out in my mid-20s because they weren't gonna give much more unless I waited another 20 years

Yeah, but why don't you just sell one of those if you get it? What do you gain from selling these other ones? It seems like a lot of work and risk just so that in the end you might profit by a couple bucks per bill.

Because those are almost impossible to find, out of 99 million bills in a series, you're looking for less than .1% of the bills.

But I feel like I could make some small money on the side doing this if it works out.
Ultimately, while I might lose money on this one, all this currency and coin hunting has been for free. Another thing is, checking bills and coins helps pass the time at work.

I mean, I work retail so I am not rich but I have more than enough money to where I dont have to resort to this to survive, i just think its fun with potential small profit.

It all sounds like a good idea until somebody buys a $100 bill for $115, says they never received it, you have to give them a refund because eBay is very buyer-friendly and then you suddenly just lost $100 on a transaction where you could have netted about $5.

When you sell money, you're risking that you're literally giving money away. On the contrary, when I sell things I have around the house, although technically they have value, if I end up needing to refund somebody it basically just feels like a net zero (besides the minimal shipping and packaging cost) since I would have otherwise donated it a thrift store anyway.

yeah i probably should have this insured, which will further eat into my cost. But again, learning experience and all that.

Also, to clarify before: I have money in my bank account. the 352 dollars in currency/coins i have sitting here is in addition to my bank account, which is higher than average anyways because I am spending less. Didnt mean to imply this money was all I had.

Price has not increased further unfortunately but theres 5 days.

So i have two finds today:

Chaco Culture 2012 P national parks quarter. The second lowest mint of any national parks quarter with 44 million produced and 22 in Philadelphia. Worth about 25 cents though because its lower mintage numismatists might encourage saving these, but i dont care. coin is worn, as well.

Now, for a much bigger find. I've been checking my star notes in the database to see if they come from rare or common print runs. Ive only found star notes from common runs until today:

2009 series twenty dollar bill, serial JF03253781

http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/lookup/20/2009/JF03253781

Comes from a rare print run. No idea what this means as to its value but its definitely worth over face value as a result, i think.

Went to three banks today looking for half dollars.

First two had none, third bank had eighty dollars worth. I said I would take em all.

So, I found one silver coin, 1969 40% silver. So somebody likely searched these but left me a freebie. Nothing remotely interesting otherwise.

oh wel
