How many generations of your family was born and raised in the United States?

With the United States technically being 241 years old, I can't help but wonder how many among us have family stretching back to the birth of the U.S. Among my own family; my parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents immigrated over to the United States in the 60's which leaves me and most of my cousins as first generation citizens.

I'd imagine folks back then married and had kids at earlier ages but I still figure maybe a new generation every 20-30 years. Any folks here able to trace your family tree back to the 1770's?

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

My uncle traced our family tree back to when we came here. It was in 1612 or something like that. All I know is that we have been here since before the Mayflower showed up.

Oh? Are you of Native American descent? My history is rough enough that I am not fully aware of any other voyages besides the Mayflower or Columbus around the 1400-1600's.

Nope, Welsh.

There were actually ships that showed up before the Mayflower, it was just the most famous one.

Ah, thank you for clarifying. That is really impressive then. Did your uncle have any luck tracing back further to Europe?

A little, it gets kind of murky trying to go back that far. We think that our ancestor was a bishop in the Anglican church, but we aren't that sure. The only reason he got as far as he did was because the US kept good census records even before it was an official country, while Wales really didn't.

This.
My mom and her siblings always told me that their grandfather was Native Anerican, but idk if that's true since a relative took a DNA test for their family tree and it didn't show any Native American in there at all. :/

Counting my father's side, I'm second-gen... I think. I know my grandma was definitely an immigrant -- and the only one from her family to actually stay in this country, having come over as an early teen -- whereas I'm not as sure about my grandfather and his relatives, although there are some in this country.

On my mother's side, I might be third-gen. It's a little murkier since I *think* know a bit more about that side, although I particularly remember the fact that he died young and that was probably one reason why we may been screwed out of a substantial family fortune. (Which is a good example of the rich getting poor.) My mother's side has a ton of relatives, though, with a lot of stories about somebody backstabbing somebody else, minor scandals, suspicious deaths, etc.

Also, because of the age difference with births, the generations are really spread out in my family.

I know my paternal side has been in the US since at least the 1880s or earlier because when I was little and we went to the family reunion, it was on a farm that had a sign out front stating the family had owned the house for over 100 years. Think my mom's side came around the same time as my maternal grandparents were born in the US (grandpa born in 1926, grandma around 1929).

Interesting results, I didn't expect that many folks with 8+ generations in the States. Even with my own family line in Burma, Taiwan, and China I am not sure if I can trace back that far.

Party politics have got nothing on family politics for viciousness and toxicity, that's for sure. The kind of politics where there's a whole fucking omerta about even mentioning another wing of the family, to the point that you only discover the existence of certain cousins when you're in your 20s.

Not living you your smelly country

It's not all smelly, just the parts where people live. Being a crazy shut in wilderness hermit is very easy to accomplish.

On topic, 5. Showed up in the 1880s. We know where in Norway but no clue if any still live there. Probably distant cousins at best if there are.
