Saw a bunch of ants crawling up into the exterior walls this morning and that doesn't sit with me. I want these little fuckers gone, along with their colonies.

I was thinking of mixing a little sugar, borax, and water together, soaking some cotton balls in them, and letting these balls of death sit out near the ants.

If that doesn't work, any ideas?

Might want to check and see if they're carpenter ants. How big are they? If they're the tiny sugar ants you're fine but if they're like a half inch or so they could be carpenters and those can be a huge headache. Might want to call pest control on those.
