If you won $300 MILLION+ in the Lottery, how would you live?

David Kaltschmidt and his wife Maureen Smith, the lucky Florida couple who won the daily double Powerball Jackpot of 328 MILLION in 2016 have clearly not let that get to their heads as the former poor couple still live in the SAME HOUSE and have barely upgraded their cars and they still use re-usable shopping bags when they go grocery shopping!!

They pocketed the biggest jackpot in history as the frugal couple changed NOTHING in their everyday lives..

Their 3-way share of the record 1.56 billion prize prpelled them to America's SUPER RICH with more than enough funds to buy yachts, supercars and sprawling mansions..

They decided to stay put in their modest 300,000 Florida home and go to the same shops and restaurants and STILL play POWERBALL!

One person said "They have hundreds of millions burning a hole in their pocket but it's almost as if nothing has changed. They are as conservative as ever."

71 y/o Maureen still does weekly shopping and chats with staff as she continues to buy powerball tickets time to time

56 y/o David, an ex-engineer bought himself a new car as neighbors thought they'd be long gone by now or at least a new Ferrari but instead he traded in his top of the range Cadillac and bought a gold coloured SUV

The only splashy item they bought was a 90,000 Tesla in matching gold for Maureen..and even has a VANITY PLATE.

Neighbors and friends can only speculate what they've done with the rest of the money as they didn't expect them to return to their old house...

They have 2 grown children, 50 y/o Michael and 47 y/o Denise and have picked the same numbers for over 30 years before winning and by the advice of lawyers, kept their win a secret for a month, even from their own CHILDREN..

Like Maureen and Michael, the 2 other winners took the lump sum of 328 million because of their age

John and Lisa from Tennessee did what most other winners did and went public with their win and bought massive luxury items and are now living the good life.

Marvin and Mae from California however dedicated nearly ALL of their winnings to CHARITY as they said it was a rare gift to help others..

Would you still live like an ordinary peasant if you won a massive 300 MILLION+ Jackpot? let's see what people will vote

Maureen and David - Rich people living like the poor.

tbh, if I won the lotto, I can't see myself doing anything too extravagant either. I'd probably improve my house -- maybe adding a tower or two alongside a moat with a gatehouse for the drawbridge -- but I'd still live the same humble life. I'd still talk to all the little people on PotD, although maybe I'd probably hire a secretary to screen my posts. I'd still work, although maybe I'd commute via helicopter and I'd probably buy a mid-sized company to run in the hopes of making even more money. The only thing that'd change is I'd hire the best lawyers and the best accountants to make sure that the government doesn't get even a penny of my money in taxes.

Which is why I'd probably keep working. A life of leisure might be good for a month or two, but I'd feel too unproductive. Granted, I guess I could be a perennial student or something where I keep going after more and more PhDs, Masters, etc, in different fields, but it wouldn't be the same without something to strive towards afterward.

1) Holy shit those ages / age differences

2) Why even bother playing the lottery when you're old? It's not like you can really enjoy it that much at that point anyway.

3) A $300,000 house is not living like "poor peasants," especially in Florida, unless they live in Miami or a few other select areas, 300K is a pretty damn expensive house in FL.

4) Ok, take #2, then add winning $328 million to it. WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL PLAYING THE LOTTERY?!

5) I'm surprised they haven't been robbed or kidnapped and held for ransom yet, honestly. Reporting on how they're still in the same old house (ie, no/little security) really won't help matters.

Probably the same as I do now, I mean, MAYBE we'd get a slightly bigger house than the one we recently moved to, just cause we could afford it, but it in no way would be some giant mansion or something, just something me, my brother and the folks can live in with plenty of room for our stuff.

I mean I could see my brother buying an expensive car or an old Charger, but otherwise I'm pretty sure we'd live mostly the same.

I wouldn't change much either. I'd worry that if I started spending a lot of money, I wouldn't be able to stop and would end up worse off than before I won, which I think happens to a lot of lottery winners. But I would keep most of the money in case I got a health problem or something.

Also, the wife is a milf (or gilf).

Woah that's sick. So when they had their first kid, the guy was 6 and the girl was 21!? I guess laws for female pedos didn't exist back in the 1960s.

Well, I certainly wouldn't be working in a restaurant anymore. I'd buy a house and a new car. That's probably the extent of big spending I'd personally do (besides paying off debts).

I'd go back to school too. And find a way to invest a portion of the money.

I'd go to college just to do it if I were rich, so I could work any job I wanted.

Like spending all your money on super expensive stuff without having a nice enough income is how many people who get rich become poor.

That or I'd just buy a mansion and play videogames for the rest of my life.

Ducky's never paid for anything in life, so he wouldn't know. Granted, it does depend on where that house is since there are a lot of places where it'd buy you something decent while other places it'd be a lot smaller.

Has no one figured out that he's the step father...?

Ducky says their grown children. If he was the stepfather, he wouldn't have been in their lives prior to adulthood given the ages.

I don't see how they're living like peasants if they have a home and a couple of cars.

If I won the lottery, I would pay off our mortgage and credit cards, and put money toward our retirement, then do the same for our parents and siblings.

Expand my knowledge? This shit doesn't even qualify as trivia. Even knowing the ex-girlfriends of a pop star would be more useful and potentially more relevant to something.

I'd probably pay off my house and get an investment property or 2 and put a good chunk of the rest in a trust for the kid.

It'd be option 1 for me all the way. Although if I won I'd try claiming the prize in a state that doesn't require your name/location be publicized(like Pennsylvania does). Either that or I'd claim it through an LLC if allowed.

In order to stop most of the money beggars from trying to leech money off me I'd set up a 900 line and make that the ONLY way they could contact me. Make it like $4.99 a minute and have somebody talking verrrryyyy slooooowly answer that line so the charges would really rack up for the idiots wanting free money.

Other than that I'd build myself a fortress and set up all my closest friends and family with funds that would pay them a decent sized 'salary' for the rest of their lives via interest paid out on a nice sized principal amount.
