I was having a meeting with my manager and the bartender comes over with the bill. My boss looks at it and says nope. The guy is over there rifling through a wad of cash. The bartender tells the guy she can't take it. He acts surprised, says nothing and walks out.

We pull up the security cameras on my boss's phone. This guy walked out calmly then broke into a run to cross the street, hops in his car and takes off, running a stop sign in the process.

My boss took a screenshot of the guy and sent it to all the other bars in the area.

In Pennsylvania they do. They have insanely archaic laws about alcohol sales.

Yup.

That was the next call. First, warn other businesses though. By the time we saw the security footage, he was probably 10 miles away and our footage didn't show his license plate.

uh, literally the job of the secret service is to investigate counterfeit money.

that's the entire reason they're a thing that exists.

https://www.secretservice.gov/investigation/
Since its inception in 1865, the Secret Service was created to investigate and prevent counterfeiting. Today the agency%u2019s investigative mission has evolved from enforcing counterfeiting laws to safeguarding the payment and financial systems of the United States from a wide range of financial and computer-based crimes. To combat these crimes, the Secret Service has adopted a proactive approach, using advanced technologies and capitalizing on the power of task force partnerships.

The U.S. Secret Service has a pivotal role in securing the nation%u2019s critical infrastructures, specifically in the areas of cyber, banking and finance. Other directives address the need to combat transnational organized crime that targets the citizens and financial institutions of the United States. In response to the globalization of technology- based threats, the U.S. Secret Service%u2019s investigative mission abroad is growing as well, creating the need for a heightened overseas liaison presence.

Today, multi-disciplined forensics experts, investigative experts and intelligence analysts provide rapid response and critical information in support of financial analysis, infrastructure protection and criminal investigations.

It seems like this guy knew what he was doing, but I worry about that a little. There has to be a fair number of cases where someone has a counterfeit bill, but isn't aware that it's counterfeit.

I don't know what's worse for this man. Getting the cops called on him for having a counterfeit bill or getting the cops called on him for having a counterfeit bill without him knowing it's fake. :/

Also, this makes you want to check the authenticity of your bills! DX

The thing is while we examined the bill, he stood there counting a wad of cash. If he was a victim of receiving a fake himself, he still would have wanted the beer. Instead, he walked out without a word then ran away from the bar.

The highway is 2 minutes from the bar. He got out of dodge fast.

I did.

And it's still speculation at this point. I know and understand the circumstances but still, I choose to believe that there MIGHT be a speck of a chance that he might be innocent. If he's not, then there's no point in discussing it because then it would be irrelevant. He got caught, he got spooked and ran off.

it would be not knowing you have a fake bill.

at least if you knew, and you still tried using it, you at least know you're trying to commit fraud. you know what you're doing is illegal and wrong.

but if you genuinely didn't know it was fake? that's very hard to prove.

I saw a fake 100 once somebody at my store took(Younger newly hired employee).

It was one of those newer colorful ones. I saw it, held it, immediately knew it was fake.

It was the same size as a hundred, also similar paper, but none of security features worked(raised bits on franklins hair and jacket, strip in the middle didnt move around, etc)

and the best part is, they werent as durable as a regular bill. on a fresh piece of currency, you can hold it at both ends and try to separate the bill to rip it. you need to use a lot of force to rip a bill this way without cutting or making a little slit to get started.

I did that on these bills and they broke in half easily.

I was laughing my ass off because these bills looked fake as fuck even without digging deeper. when i did dig deeper i was laughing harder.

I've not known any bars to sell alcohol to go over here but I assume that's because of licencing laws and whatnot. Not sure what the deal is over in America. If I want more to drink after the pubs/bars are closed I normally go into a 24 hour store to buy them. It's a lot cheaper too.

Yeah, PA has some weird alcohol laws. I dont mind at all because I dont drink any more, but even when I did I didnt mind really. I feel like maybe these laws make it so there arent as many drunk idiots out there as you cant go to any convenience store and buy alcohol, but perhaps I am wrong. even despite our laws it isnt hard at all to get alcohol. even state stores as they are called, where i live(outside of pittsburgh) I can name like 10 in a 15-20 minute radius.

But I could be wrong. I admit I am not much of a drinker any more so whatever the laws are i dont care.
