I have a PC, but that of course means no mobile gaming and no console exclusives. I occasionally troll around Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and recently I saw a PS4 and Vita combo. So I'm curious if these are decent systems?

Mostly on PS4 I'm interested in Horizon Zero Dawn. But I don't want to spend $275 to grab both systems and use them for like one game each.

Depends entirely on what you want to play, and how you want to play it.

I don't know much about the Vita but I'm enjoying my PS4. I like the Uncharted games, inFAMOUS Second Son, Ratchet & Clank, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, and a couple others. I want to try the Gravity Rush games next. Horizon Zero Dawn is a good game to start with since there's a lot to do in it.

Literally all of what you just listed are PS4 exclusives, right? I might pick this thing up, then. All of those do interest me at least a little. Anyway I sent the dude an email. We'll see if I even get a response.

Get a Switch instead.

Better games, and you're not buying a dead on arrival system like the Vita.

Switch is a lot of money and has terrible battery life, though. I'd really like to wait until it's older and cheaper, especially if they release a revamped version (especially if it's small enough to fit in a pocket and has better battery life). Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly interested in it, but I rarely buy things new and at full price. I don't really have that kind of cash.

I'm aware Vita is mostly dead, but it has a catalog of some decent games. And at $275 for PS4+Vita, that seems like a decent bet. I think? I'm really looking for opinions on whether PS4 and Vita are good, not whether something else is better. I know about and am interested in the Switch. It's just not an option for me right now.

Speaking from personal experience, which may be different for you based on your tastes, the PS4/ Vita are both pretty shit. Decent enough hardware but nothing really special, the exclusives are vastly over rated and not yet on the level the PS3 had, HZD being the biggest pile of overhyped tripe I've played this console gen (After Destiny of course!). Overall I'm pretty disappointed in everything consoles have offered over the last 5 years. Switch/ PC is the only combo anyone needs atm unless they're easily pleased by shiny visuals.

Don't buy it just for HZD, ensure you have a catologue of titles that interest you, else you're just throwing money up the wall when you could wait 12 months and pick a PS4 up cheap. $275 is a lot of money to throw money at something simply for one game, which could end up being a disappointment for you.

The "easily pleased by shiny visuals" crowd are all PC gamers, though. They're the ones constantly screaming about resolution and framerate as if their lives depended on it.

As for the Switch, the only people who "need" it "atm" are Zelda fans - most of the other games on it right now are shit, gimmicks, or shitty gimmicks.

If you like JRPG's, the Vita is really good. Especially with its compatibility with downloadable PSP games.

This explains why DoTA, LoL, WoW, Garry's Mod, Team Fortress 2, & Civilization are just some of the constantly played PC games, those shiny visuals!! A small percentage of PC players look for maximum FPS/ graphics settings, not a proper reflection of the PC community, wheras consoles are currently pushing the gimmick of shiny visuals while offering nothing of note to play in reality, and yet console gamers lap it up despite the majority not even being close to owning a 4k TV, it's madness. Have you not seen the Xbox One board currently??

As for the Switch, it already has a game the PS4/ Vita will never get close to, and is due to recieve another in a couple months, it also has a steady stream of quality titles planned to launch over the next 12 months. Do explain what the PS4/ Vita have to offer that the PS3 doesn't already give...

This is a discussion that helps a lot.

Out of curiosity, what about HZD was disappointing? I've heard excellent stuff about that game. Really about all of the games SilentSeph mentioned.

As for PS Vita and JRPGs... I mean I've enjoyed some. It's not my first choice in genre I guess. This combo I'm thinking of does include Persona 4 Golden. I've never played that series.

I assume you mean Breath of the Wild? Is it really that incredible? Because I could get a Wii U instead and that wouldn't be as expensive as the Switch. Not mobile, though.

Personally, I play games on PC because it's the largest selection of games and most economical. You need to have a computer anyway. At that point the price difference to make it run games decently is pretty small. Smaller than buying a console, plus Steam lets you buy games for crazy cheap.

I enjoy my PS4 and Vita. I play them both regularly (I play my 3DS and Switch regularly too).

Also, if you grab now, there's the mid year sale going on. A lot of games for cheap right now.

On Vita I'm playing Hyper Dimension Neptunia Rebirth 1 which is okay so far but a looooot of talking. Also, Ratchet and Clank collection aa I've never played those games before.

On Ps4 I need to finish Persona 5 (great game) and I am also playing the Ratchet and Clank movie tie in game, which is excellent.

For anyone who has both systems, how is remote play? Like, if i want to play PS4 games with the system in the basement and I'm on the main level sitting in bed, how well would that work out for me?

There was a slight lag to the button inputs when I tried it, so I wouldn't use it for fast paced games.

Yeah, even just playing in the same room as my PS4 and wifi, there's a slight lag. And anything that heavily uses the shoulder buttons is a pain to play as they get mapped to the rear touchpad (at least 2 of the buttons do)

You could probably play something like Final Fantasy X HD with no real issues, but at that point, just get the vita version (there's cross save)

Great game. Others like Persona 5 and Uncharted 4 are good exclusives too. I guess it all depends how many exclusive games interest you that are out/coming out on the PS4/Vita. I mean Zero Dawn isn't a system seller to me. However it's not disappointing.

Why on earth would someone buy a Switch that costs a lot more to play a lot less games? I mean granted I've not played Breath of the Wild but to say everything consoles have offered in the past five years have disappointed you but Zelda saved the day is really sad.

To be fair, the Switch just came out. I'm sure it'll get a good game library and come down in price over time. That's when I'd be more interested in buying one.

That's my point. Right now the PS4 has many games to choose from where as the switch doesn't and won't for a few years. I'll also buy one when more games are on the system and hopefully by then the price will drop too.

The PS4 is really good. The exclusives on it are great and it's good for the really intensive games that don't want to run on my PC. I have a Vita too which I like but I only have about 8-10 games so I don't use it THAT much. I definitely think they're worth getting if you have the chance.

Hahaha. In the end I realized I really just missed having a controller for certain games. Some just play better with a controller than a mouse and keyboard. I literally had gotten it into my mind that I needed an entire console when my only issue was not having a controller. I just didn't realize that was the problem. I ended up just buying a nice Xbox One controller on Amazon for my computer, plus a few games in the last hours of Steam's Summer Sale. Way cheaper and I think it's the best choice.

Why the hell did I get it in my mind that I needed a whole console? I tried justifying it by saying I needed mobile gaming and console exclusives. In the end, I've finally realized that there are thousands of PC games I can play, and I never have time when I'm not home to play games anyway. I don't exactly regret this topic, though. It helped to slow down my decision making enough for me to realize what was really going on in my head. I guess I just missed controllers.

Currently Vita is much better for portable gaming than Switch, in terms of variety and quantity of games available, Plus you'd look weird playing it in public - some kid on the train pulled it out, got weird looks from other people and put it back in. While Vita actually looks like a fancy mobile and most of the people would assume you are playing with one.

vita is the reverse switch.

Vita Games are cheaper, but i rather pay more for the ps4 verison. And i never take my vita anywhere.

switch games are $20 more and i never want to play them in console mode and i take them everywhere.

I don't get it.

But the vita is a cool machine. Most game are on the ps4 with noticeable graphics and loading times. if you have good enough interent you can stream your ps4 to your vita. But i never seen it work perfectly and i have 200 mb speed interent.

the vita can play some psp game and lot of playstation game too. and those game are super cheap digitally.

I say it's still a good buy.

PS4 there is no contest you should own one. the exclusive games are worth owning the machine.
