My guess as to why would be the same reason I still listened to it for so long: convenience. If a car has some kind of stereo, then at minimum it has a radio. Even if it has other options, some people don't always like bothering with getting their CDs or auxiliary devices going. After I upgraded to a stereo with aux and USB ports, I still would put it on the radio as my "default" when I wasn't using my phone, even though I already knew I hated the radio at that point. Then one day, about a year ago, I decided to just turn the radio off entirely, and I've never looked back. This, usually the Symphony Hall channel these days. Saves me from having to make any sort of choices about what to have playing, while also being a decent way to find new stuff I enjoy. Usually Stern 100 for me, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Willie's Roadhouse (ch. 59). I've never been much of a country fan, but fell in love with that old-school country.
