Poll of the Day > Can any sci fi readers help me find/identify this book?

There is a book about a dead alien named Zed. The main characters travel all over the place with the dead alien (I think he communicates with them telepathically). It's been like 20 years since I read it I think.


It predates the band Zed is Dead, and even Pulp Fiction (which had a zed), along with a childrens book series about an alien named Zed.

Problem is, all those new zeds and Zed is Deads, make it impossible to find the book through google search.

I used to remember every book I ever read, but that ship sailed a decade ago.

Hopefully someone with a better memory then me (now), can still remember this book and help me identify it.

Pretty sure it wasn't a well known author that wrote it either, and it may have just gone poof at this point:(

It could be, but I remembered the quote, actually thought Zed is Dead was the name of the book to be honest, but didn't know about all the other Zeds till I tried to find the book.

Almost positive the alien was named Zed (and he was dead)...but if that is the case, and that was the books name, it's lost behind so many other dead zed aliens at this point that I'll never find it:(

Well, I've never heard of it and given the preponderance of scifi novels, good luck finding it. Even the relatively popular stuff can be hard to find out with vague clues.

Yeah, I really looked hard, but no dice. It's frustrating as I remember the book fairly well, but can't remember any of the character names other then Zed (the dead alien). Twas a pretty funny book actually which is why I remember it.

But there is just so much Zed and Zedd stuff out there now, and this was an obscure book by an unknown author...so yeah, don't think I'll ever find it. Wish I hadn't donated all my books to the library years ago, or I could have just found it.

Oh yeah I remember that book!

i hate when i can't remeber a book. i read a fantasy book when i was in 5th grade and i can't remeber it, searching doesn't help. it was the start of a series to so it makes it worse...

Can I steal this topic for a while?
I try to remember the name of a children (?) scifi-book that I think I read in the early 90s.
It started with a guy on earth that gets a call and learns that some distant (?) relative died. He inserts some kind of atm card in the phone and inherit a "small fortune" (I want to believe that it was called credits or something like that), which he uses to buy a small spaceship that he reconfigurates.
I think it was a small freighter that he turned into a passenger ship. Or the other way around.
...aaand thats everything I remember...

There might have been something about picking up a girl and leaving the solar system and trying to find something to save humanity or something like that, but Im not sure if Im still in the same book now...

Man, I read just about everything published through the 90's (in sci fi/fantasy etc) but i can't remember that book at all. Then again, I can't remember tons of them anymore.

I read at least a book a day from the mid 70's till the late 90's, but I have forgotten books I read 2 years ago at this point *sigh*.

Anyway, hope you find your book as well.
