The tl;dr is that Germany's renewables programs are 1) far more costly than expected 2) not sustainable, since reaching their renewables goal would involve 1.1 trillion in spending (which they can't afford), and 3) far more expensive for consumers, skyrocketing their cost of living.

A government decision in July to bury thousands of kilometers of high-voltage cable to link wind parks in northern Germany with the south received little attention, despite a price tag of up to €8 billion.

The original plan called for power the lines to be above ground for a fraction of the cost. But locals in Bavaria didn’t want the lines running through their communities.

Many of the protestors in Bavaria were more worried about suspected health risks associated with overhead power lines than aesthetics.

how will we have autonomous robots if they cannot renew their energy in a cheap way?

Never understood the conservative allergy to renewable energy, Earth Day, really anything with the environment tbh. Always seemed a bit odd

It's almost like those were the exact same issues brought up by the opposition of "cheap" and "renewable" energy

it has to do with capitalism and free market

Earth Day essentially means dictate on people to lose profits in favor of being green and they don't like that

profits come first, but really it is more about freedom than money, but still alot about money

I get why cheap is in quotations but why is renewable in quotations.

Are we going to run out of wind?

A matter of economics rather than literally making parts of the world uninhabitable, mass extinctions, and changing weather patterns.

renewable energy is viewed as "pro environment" which is only something liberals care about, ergo conservatives are ravenously against it

https://theintercept.com/2017/04/28/how-a-professional-climate-change-denier-discovered-the-lies-and-decided-to-fight-for-science/

JT: It started in the early 2000s. I was one of the climate skeptics who do battle on TV and I was doing a show with Joe Romm. On air, I said that, back in 1988, when climate scientist James Hansen testified in front of the Senate, he predicted we’d see a tremendous amount of warming. I argued it’d been more than a decade and we could now see by looking at the temperature record that he wasn’t accurate. After we got done with the program and were back in green room, getting the makeup taken off, Joe said to me, “Did you even read that testimony you’ve just talked about?” And when I told him it had been a while, he said “I’m daring you to go back and double check this.” He told me that some of Hansen’s projections were spot on. So I went back to my office and I re-read Hanson’s testimony. And Joe was correct. So I then I talked to the climate skeptics who had made this argument to me, and it turns out they had done so with full knowledge they were being misleading.
