I remember back on the ps1 it was something like 8kb per save, now they're like 100x that amount or more! For a typical rpg, what else do you need besides character level and skills, items, which quests you've done, and where you are??

People want more customization and interactivity. For that to work and have any impact on the game, it has to save and remember all the shit you did
