On Facebook live

https://www.google.com/amp/www.foxnews.com/us/2017/04/16/easter-day-slaughter-cleveland-cops-searching-for-alleged-killer-who-broadcast-murder-on-facebook.amp.html

Don't want to post the actual video because I'd clearly get banned but he killed an old man live on Facebook :/

I understand like Facebook wants that live feature but this isn't the first time someone has committed a crime live broadcasting it on there. I feel like they should just remove the feature.

This isn't even the first time. Recently there was a case where three people kidnapped a mentally handicapped dude and beat his ass live on there. Last year this lady live streamed the police shooting her husband during a routine traffic stop.

Well I mean would he have not murdered if it wasn't possible to stream? And you'd kinda rather they record it to make it an easy case.

Livestreaming somebody else doing it is different, but yeah, I recall those racists who hate-crimed that mentally ill guy (and before that, you had a group who livestreamed a rape). This seems like the natural progression from the last thing.

Facebook is going to have to weigh if the pros outweigh the cons here of people live streaming themselves committing horrible crimes on there. I know it's few and far between but I feel like they're opening themselves up to a liability.

Apparently from the sounds of it, he was doing it to get back at a girlfriend who just dumped him? He walked up the old man, asked him to say some woman's name, and then shot him in the face. Then as he ran back to his car he turned the camera back to the body on the ground and said "see 'woman's name'? He died because of you"

Sounds like he did it to mess with her. He probably wouldn't have done it the same dramatic way if t weren't for livestream

They'll never remove the feature.

If you're dumb enough to record or livestream yourself committing crimes, good. The recording/livestream will make a conviction that much easier.

Let's not be just as dumb as them and assume the crimes wouldn't have been committed because they lacked the ability to livestream.

Facebook's next move is easy, wait for the warrant and cooperate.

Yeah they're not gonna remove it. It's literally creating video evidence of a crime. And if it weren't facebook it would've been youtube or whatever else. No problems are being solved by removing the medium.

Public perception dictates corporate responses. If they just put out some statement about this not being the intention of the service, and enough people are still outraged, they'd take it further. Look at SJWs and hardcore church ladies if you want to see the power being a squeaky wheel has these days. Everyone else is too indifferent to stand up and fight about something because they are rational enough to understand situations for what they are rather than just get triggered like somebody just smeared hot shit in their face.

I do agree he could have streamed it anywhere else, but Facebook is the most well own and most used social media, especially for the older generations, who have taken over the site after Instagram stole the younger generation from them

It's not a liability if it's not allowed by their terms of service to stream people committing crimes. Any judge would look at the fact that the stream is no longer being hosted on Facebook as well as the fact that they cooperated with law enforcement and throw out any case against them.

The internet is not the lawless wasteland some people think it is.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Dumping the feature won't stop the crimes. But it does make it easier to catch and convict the few people who are stupid enough to put it out there live like that.

It might make sense to remove the feature if it were happening all the time. But it's been rare enough that it doesn't warrant removing the feature.

We know livestreaming a crime will be easier to convict a criminal, but this guy did the crime BECAUSE he wanted to live stream it and show everyone. He wanted to get back at someone and fuck with their head. If he wanted to get away, he clearly wouldn't have streamed it.

That's really not the issue, it's more that it encourages shit like this. It's kinda like how school shooters have encouraged others to be school shooters.

If it's not facebook it'll be something else, like Instagram live streaming or twitch. I don't think they can be held liable for it either.

It won't be removed and a few bad apples really shouldn't ruin it for everyone else.

Those were my thoughts too. Providing a new platform encourages crazy people to use it. Fertilizer bombs are a thing too, but unlike some cheesy stream, we need fertilizer.

I'll argue the complete opposite. The ease of arrest and convictions due to such damning evidence provided by the defendant will detour future livestreamers.
