On one hand, I'd rather not even say "I don't feel like talking" if I didn't want to. On the other hand, having setting for that for Uber sounds absolutely ridiculous.

I love the idea of a quiet ride option! To just tell the driver "I'd rather not talk" is easier said than done. The quiet ride isn't just there for when you aren't in the mood to talk, some people are never in the mood to talk, especially with strangers. Having to say "I don't feel like chatting" would not only mean talking to a stranger, but it would be rude. You can sit there and say "its not rude at all, they'll understand" but that will never be reassuring. It will always feel like a rude thing to say. I don't care how the driver takes it, whats important is that I don't feel rude.

To be honest, I think if you're really a quiet person who doesn't want to talk, you'll probably naturally give short responses that'll naturally turn someone off from talking.

That works sometimes, but a lot of extroverts see introverts as extroverts who you just need to crack open first. You'll give short answers to their questions, offering no more information than is asked, but because you keep throwing out periodic "uh-huh"s so as to not appear rude, they'll just keep yapping away.

I see nothing wrong with not wanting to communicate unless it is required.


I have a tendency to listen to music to avoid talking to people...been this way since High School.
