The only time swimming has been vital at any point of my life is when I fell into a pool at a pool party as a kid and when I underestimated how deep a river was when I was kayaking a few years ago which motivated me to learn how to swim just so I could safe face with my friends. Literally the only reason then, and the only reason now is so I don't become a fatass along with maybe two other forms of exercise, not because it's important in any aspect of my daily life. I've been in pools many times before learning how to swim

The people trying to exaggerate how important swimming is to the general population need to step your trolling game up or quit the imonlypretending.jpg charade because you really honestly just sound dumb as shit

Wait, so you fell in a pool and fell in kayaking and still don't think it's an essential life skill?

Darwin should have won out there. What the fuck happened to evolution?

Friends pull you out?

Maybe pick up a dictionary champ. Next you'll say if I decide to go skydiving, sky diving training is an essential life skill too for everyone

The obvious answer is no since I prefaced it "the only time swimming has been vital at any point in my life" and stated I learned how to swim after those two events happened. And not even immediately after.

I don't know if you think you're asking some kind of clever question to reach some aha gotcha it is essential moment, but if you are going that route, before you make your subsequent post just know that it's gonna be a shit argument about something resulting from reckless choices being essential

No. If I didn't want to drown and didn't care about saving face or using it to exercise, my easy solution to prevent that from happening again would be to not do it again. Don't kayak on a river, don't go near a pool. Easy peasy

I can confidently tell you I have not been in a river since then and the only times ive been in a pool since that time were after explicit "okay you fat piece of shit, go exercise" mental discussions.

I guess one thing I couldn't control is if I were in a plane and we went down in a body of water but I'd probably be dead before swimming was even a concern #yolo

No just saying, funny that someone saved you from drowning TWICE and you still ignorant as fuck and telling people it isn't essential. you should be DEAD

That's like a drunk driver that ended up killing someone going around on tours telling people the dangers of drunk driving and concluding that it isn't essential to be sober to drive. The fuck man.

There's a particularly good one where I drove my friends to a store down the street at night when I just had my permit. The worsething wasn't even that, it was that they were smoking underage

You shouldn't say that

I want to believe that people "trying" to mock me for doing something reckless and completely optional and making some super shitty argument about how it makes swimming an essential skill are trolling. The essential part all breaks down in the simple scenario where instead of deciding to do a certain thing, I instead not to willingly put myself in that situation.

Because if not trolling, the other option is just muy mal :(

If it's fun I'm willing to continue. Passive aggressive comments are my forte tbqh

?

No more fun time?

If you need more ammo (funny I should say that), I've been on a gun range before without any kind of permit or training, shooting all types of shit. Unfortunately I didn't end up shooting myself or someone else, but let's pretend I did. Would this completely optional event also fall under an essential life skill in that case? I knew where the safeties were back then but since I somehow haven't touched a gun since that time, I kinda forgot. Uh oh. Have at it

Wait actually if its an essential life skill i guess it wouldn't matter whether or not I had an accident there. Whoops that one fell flat. Let's just put gun training under essential life skills then since you never know when one is gonna fall right in your lap

Yeah everything I stated points to that. You gotta teach me one day how to argue like you.

Where you completely ignore making any remotely sensible response about how swimming is essential due to two extremely easily avoidable incidents (them: "hey Mac you want to go to the pool/kayaking?" Me: "Nope"), and instead going the mocking route as if you actually said something of worth at any point in this topic

Maybe tomorrow when you have time I guess

It's dependent on location but in the vast majority of cases yes, swimming is most certainly a life skill and not being able to only demonstrates a severe lack of athletic ability. No one is asking you to do a 400 IM.
