So months ago my car was hit while it was parked. Legally parked in a lot while I was in class. Some other student I guess hit my car (HARD) and caused the entire rear bumper to dislodge and left a giant dent. The insurance paid for everything since I was not even in the car and then they just told us today the rate is being raised for that. They must be high. That aint sticking but it shows how crooked these fucking companies are >.>

If you didn't want your rates to go up, you didn't have to claim it.

You can also shop around for an insurance company that won't raise your rates after one claim.

I sure as hell aint dropping the grand for the damage. They can jack it up all they want but we are gonna get it taken away. Got all the paperwork needed.

It's all bs. I had leased a car years ago, the lease ended and I returned the car to the dealership from where I got it and moved on with my life.

A few months ago I got a call from my insurance company calling about my "claim". I hadn't been in any accident. Apparently, whoever now has that old car got into an accident, didn't have insurance, and the company of the other person ran the vin # of the car and randomly filed a claim against me in the hopes that I would pay.

Luckily I still had the papers to prove I returned the car years ago. Completely sickening tho.

I'd shop around then. Make sure they don't get their money's worth off of you or send them a quote you got for less and price match

tbh, that's about as bullshit as it gets considering that, unless you were illegally parked, there's nothing you could have done differently so it's no indication of risk. (Granted, I *suppose* you could argue that the areas you choose to park in might expose you to higher risk, although that's flimsy.)

tbh, that's about as bullshit as it gets considering that, unless you were illegally parked, there's nothing you could have done differently so it's no indication of risk. (Granted, I *suppose* you could argue that the areas you choose to park in might expose you to higher risk, although that's flimsy.)

I am pretty sure a perfectly legal parking lot in my university which is in an extremely rich town is safe >.>

I dont agree with that. After all the money we pay companies, this is their damn job. To pay for accidents and especially ones where we were not at fault. If they dont want to do that without being compensated why bother having insurance?

Man, I've been to insurance hell and back several times (6 digit claims). They are pretty damn fucking despicable, on straight up illegal shit.

There's ways to get that dropped back to the original amount, but it sounds like it's a negligible amount to you, so probably not worth the time.
