No one actually said anything about America being #1 in overweight citizens. I never claimed it was, no one (that I know of) in this topic claimed it was - so it's a waste of your time to post something like this.

That being said, if you actually look at some of the places on that list, many of them are very low isolated populations. Tokelau is an island with a staggering 1500~ people living there.

The sample sizes for most of these countries is simply not big enough to compete with the U.S., Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Taking that into consideration, the U.S. actually does fall into the top 5 when you take countries with small populations (sub-1 million) out.

If you were to include countries like that, then it might as well include cities as well.

You presented this topic like Americans are the only ones with a problem, don't play coy. Clearly we are not is the point.

Your account isn't even 10 years old genius. I've never seen you post on any other board nor do I ever follow you around. I pointed out that you yourself were fat at one point. Which is a fact you've talked about openly.

That's my point genius. You claimed I posted pics of myself when I was fat. You make things up and spew hate. At least get your facts straight when you stalk people

You did. You used to make topics about how you looked like Ryan Gosling (lol) and post pics of yourself being chubby.

One time 4 years ago I made a topic about how a girl told me I looked like Ryan gosling and you constantly come into topics I post in and change it around to make it seem like I was saying that. 4 fucking years ago. And now your saying I posted pics of myself and that I was fat. You lie about me and creepily stalk me. Did I fuck a relative of yours or something? Give it a rest man

I don't think I've even directed a post at you in like 2 years before this topic.

There is more to this.

Think about the 90s. People would think "American" and think of somebody like Guile (SF) or Johnny Cage. Actually, that is why Guile was designed the way he was, Capcom wanted a "stereotypically American for the American players" (considering the Japanese guy is a dude in a Karate suit and the Indian breathes fire and levitates, you get the idea, unrealistic stereotypes, in this case Guile is the military 6'0 blonde guy).

Fast forward to the 2010's and now people think "American" and they picture Rufus instead. You know, the morbidly obese midwestern who talks a lot and has anger issues. Somehow that became the new American stereotype.

We went from Tom Cruise to Michael Moore. It's not normal. Some say it's the HFCS in our food, or the hormones in certain products. I am not sure what it is, but it is definitely more than just poor diet and lack of exercise.

That depends on what you do. If you're exercising for strength, you won't lose nearly as much weight as you would if you were doing cardio (which should be happening anyway - cardio is important).

But if you were to do 30-45 minutes of cardio each day, you'd end up with anywhere between 800-1100 extra calories burned weekly depending on how hard you go.

I definitely would agree that proper dieting is much more effective for losing weight, but that doesn't mean 'exercise does nothing for weight'.

1. This is a problem with people on a case-by-case basis. Nothing I can say here.
2&3. Both of these go for most of the first world - and while it's true many western countries are getting fatter, many Eastern Asian countries are not getting much fatter. So it's not really an excuse.

No, portion sizes are an issue for the average American. "Case-by-case basis" is missing the big picture.

When you look at 70% of the country being overweight it takes a really out of touch person to say "this is an individual problem." This is an issue that needs serious cultural overhaul.

You could use that as an argument if that were the only issue, but it's not. People eating bigger portions is a problem with humanity in general. They see a lot and they eat a lot. Nothing in our body tells us to stop eating before the golden ~15 minutes where you start to feel hungry.

There's nothing else to really blame here - it's a lack of self control. I used to be a similar way when I was younger, I would eat too much, feel sick afterwards, and regret it. Those people need to learn on a case-by-case basis. No amount of cultural change would fix that.

It doesn't take THAT long to cook stuff. If you can't set aside an hour out of your day to cook dinner for yourself, you need to make a time management adjustment if you want better quality of life.

If you don't want to bother setting aside that time, then by all means continue being fat, but don't complain about it like it's impossible.

You don't even need to cook to stay a decent weight. I think the problem doesn't arise from people eating dinners/lunches that are too big. Maybe they do, maybe they don't.

But the bigger problem is snacking throughout the entire day and drinking soda with every meal. I wouldn't be surprised if most Americans tack on 700+ calories every day just through snacks and soda.

The answer to this is a "Yes, but..." there's many factors, lack of education on nutrition being one. Can't be fucked to write a long post explaining it but, eating too much and the whole calories in vs calories out is correct, but it's incredibly oversimplified. Insulin sensitivity, fucked up ratio of macro nutrients, preservatives in our food, stress, etc all play parts in it.

Quick example, Asian countries (namely Japan and South Korea) have diets high in carbs and sodium, plus high levels of stress, yet aren't fat.... just saiyan.

I always find it funny when someone scoffs at BMI when they clearly don't know its purpose. Is BMI useful as a measure for individuals? No - it wasn't developed for that purpose.

BMI was developed for population studies (exactly what this is), which it does quite well. I don't really care if you, as an individual, are 'actually healthy' despite BMI saying otherwise. That just shows me that you miss the entire point.

Another thing people seem to miss - BMI is more likely to classify people in a 'healthy' category when they are unhealthy rather than vice versa. It wouldn't surprise me even a bit if there are actually more Americans that are overweight than the study actually shows.

Definitely. This is another big one. With a glass of soda in at around 100+ calories, a lot of people drink multiple per day, and plenty of people get Big Gulps and shit like that. Average American probably does around 500 calories on just soda alone.

Switching to drinking mostly water is an instant way to lose weight IMO.
