I have a high IQ. So what? I'm sure a lot of people read my posts and think I'm one of the dumbest posters here.

Would people concede that I'm qualified because I have a higher IQ than them? or that i'm right and they are wrong because of my IQ? I highly doubt it

I've posted this before, but I was offered admittance to college at 13 because of my IQ.

And what has that amounted to? I wouldn't trust myself to run any department of government let alone manage a target.

Somehow I don't think the person who's in charge of our education system should have only a BA and from a Christian college at that. Didn't even go to graduate school lol.

does it matter honestly? Why would training in something else amount to anything. Like going to grad school for women's studies, how does that qualify them more than someone who didn't go to grad school at all.

There is nothing inherently special about grad school and a lot of them aren't really anything more than a hobbyist get together.

I've seen many of the grad programs at UCLA. Taken classes apart of the program and a lot of them are lax, and just involve writing papers of things you are interested in

Right now, Grad School is a luxury. For well off kids who have time to waste another 8 years on education with little payoff.

I don't think there are problems in Grad Schools worth addressing.

To teach you need a masters so people feel she should have at least that. I like her though, busting up the teacher unions is a good thing.

There aren't any problems with grad school.
You only need a bachelors to teach high school. So grad school has no impact on lower education.

Professors are broken into two categories for the most part.
Majors where ther eare far too many and majors where there are far too few.
The majors where there are far too many are the luxury PhD's. Where people are going to college to study a field with no jobs on the market. Think philosphy, women's studies, lots of arts and things like that.

The only job that exists for these people are teaching degrees, because they only exist as majors to prepetuate a cycle of researchers/hobbyists. I'm not saying they have no value in the workforce as a supplement to other things, but philosphy by itself has no value beyond teaching it to others.
For the most part it seems majors are either focus on doing a paying job with actual demand vs demand created only by academia.


The shortages only exist in professor jobs like engineering, science... well STEM basically and for a reason that has nothing to do with a fault in their grad programs, but rather that someone who is qualified enough to be a stem professor has very little reason to actually be a stem professor. They have more monetary value than what colleges can afford. A CS major with a phd in the field will make way way way more money than a CS professor will because doing computer science produces more revenue than teaching it.


That "problem" isn't addressed by improving Grad programs, but by allocating way more funds to STEM departments in colleges.


The problem of professors not getting jobs in philosphy has nothing to do with the quality or price of their education. It's more of supply and demand and maybe an awareness campaign needs to go in place to stress the dire situation of hobbyist majors.

But almost ever student knows this going in. It isn't a matter of ignorance. Hence why I called grad school a luxury because the only fields that have bachelors degrees that are nothing by themselves are fields with absolutely no demand in the market

People putting their hobbies and interests over their livelihood and they know the risks.




The only aspect of grad school that may need fixing is medical school, but every problem of medical school is a result of fixing the problem of computer science and engineers.
If the programs were not expensive then there would be little incentive to teach in medical school a a doctor

A lot of occupy wallstreet was just hobbyists who knew the consequences of their life choices and did them anyway

And as a coping mechanism lash out at the government for their problems.

I'm not trying to downplay their problems, but by attempting to "fix" problems with the hobbyist majors such as debt that never gets paid off because hobby degrees don't make money

You only make the problem worse because now unpaid debt won't exist to discourage people who pursue jobs with absolutely no demand.
More people will take dumb degrees and the total debt will only increase.

Not only is it unfair, because you are you punishing people who picked money over their hobbies by making them pay for the education of hobbyists, but it only increases hobbyists because fewer and fewer and people will put money over their hobbies if there are less and less advantages to.

It's just in no one's bes interest.

And I will say right now, I only picked CS so I could have a career.
It is not a matter of people enjoying things more than others, but rather a difference in priorities. I have never met a single CS person choose CS for reasons other than money and job security.
