It baffles me that so many students who leave university with a scientific degree don't have the expertise to read through a primary scientific article.

meh, diploma mills are a good thing since academe persists and bloats for us to reap the benefits. Better than the true darkest timeline where universities don't even exist because they aren't profitable...

Because degrees don't factor in what university they went to. For example, my university focused on us doing research, and we studied newer therapeutic approaches that are still under development, and hypothesized different methods of treatment. We also looked at many different articles and how to interpret data.
