It's possibly the legitimate closest to "We've always been at war with Eastasia" that real world America will get.

Why not just be honest for a change? Like you can make the argument fairly reasonably that Chechnya is culturally distinct from the Russian mainstream and that a majority (I think) of the people there desires independence from Russia.

Kadyrov is a fierce Putin loyalist, which makes him fireproof against criticism by anyone -- except Putin, and Putin rewards loyalty with full support.

I don't know, to be honest. Russia and China are outliers in this area, since countries tend to become less homophobic as they become less religious:

However, let's not conflate homophobia in Russia with homophobia in Chechnya/the Middle East. Russian anti-gay sentiment is largely intolerance and occasionally imprisonment, although that seems rarely if ever enforced. Muslim anti-gay sentiment means death to homosexuals.
