Too many fast food restaurants

When I lived in Germany, there would be like McDonald's and maybe a Burger King in each city. America, there can be 5 fast food restaurants in a block.

Soda. I don't know why this doesn't get as much attention.

300 calories that quickly turn to fat if they aren't used soon enough after consumption, and since it's just sugar and water basically, you aren't getting full nor are you getting any nutrition.

That 1200 calorie fast food meal is at least filling and provides nutrition instead of just pure liquid carbs.

Because people don't exercise, and they also eat bad. It would be one thing if people were more active and just ate bad, but no, people are lazy af and won't go workout

They don't get enough. Everyone immediately jumps to fast food and sedentary lifestyles and overlook the biggest factor.

Actually as a total non-expert I would guess it's a combination of all of the following things:

- availability of cheap grains and carb heavy diets. Everything comes with bread.
- cultural attitudes towards food types and food portion sizes. Everything is fried and served on superlarge plates because that's the expectation of value.
- shifting cultural attitudes towards healthy living and body size. People are not as shamed as much for being overweight
- convenience of modern world technology that increasingly takes away the burden of doing any physical work in any capacity for most people. You can be a fully functioning adult sitting from a chair all the time
- Increased alcohol consumption across the board
- less social pressure to participate in physical activity and sports, more social pressure and ability to participate in sedentary activities

Basically everything everybody said is correct. One burger from most fast food places exceeds or comes close to exceeding daily fat, sodium, and cholesterol. On top of this, one can of most sodas exceeds the recommended daily sugar intake by almost double. Pair these together, your dinner alone pushes you above the recommended daily intake for fat, sodium, cholesterol, and sugar. And that's just dinner, not even including any dessert you may have, or your breakfast or lunch.

American foods are awful in this regard. I have a bunch of Thai candy, and the sugar in a whole bar is 6g. Compare that to the 22g in a bite size Snickers candy, and you begin to realize why there's such a problem in this country.
