The band member who provided the moniker to the J. Geils Band has reportedly died.

Multiple news outlets reported Tuesday evening that 71-year-old John W. Geils had been found dead in his Groton, Massachusetts, home.

No cause of death was immediately reported, but according to TMZ, police don’t suspect foul play. Mr. Geils was 71.

Despite giving the popular 1970s and 1980s party band his name, Mr. Geils was not the group’s front man — that being lead singer Peter Wolf. Mr. Geils was the group’s guitarist.

The group had some modest hits such as “Love Stinks,” “Come Back” and “Must Of Got Lost” in the 1970s, but it had its breakthrough with the 1982 album “Freeze Frame.”
