Not like the tea part, people who believe in no state and no capitalism? People like David Graeber?

Do you respect them? Despise them? View them as naive? Hope they move the world a little to the left? I want to hear CE's opinion on the modern anarchist movement, and your views on various kinds of anarchists.

just to make sure, are we defining anarchy as total absence of government or as a mad max style post-apocalyptic scenario where everyone just turns into a raider?

Not really. I've read Chomsky on anarchism and he basically defines himself as an anarchist. A lot of smart people are anarchists and just view it as a different political view. There are also a lot of dumb brainwashed kids who are anarchists too so take what you will from it.

entirely depends on what they do.

are we talking about the kind that just sit around and talk random nonsense about no-governemt stuff, or the kind that actively sabotage government stuff and activity?

There is literally no philosophical form of anarchism where everyone just turns into a raider.

I believe they are tremendously misguided but otherwise have their heart in the right place.

Actually, I should clarify that - some have their hearts in the right place, those who see problems with how governments handle things and how things turn out in relation to the people.

However, not the ones who are violent degenerates who get into the cause because they think it's cool, basically as another fad way of rebelling against their parents, social structure, and the government as another form of Black Metal philosophy.

I used to think like that. Of course, now I appreciate the infrastructure and specialization afforded to us by having some sort of organized oversight committee. That being said, I still generally place in the center of the bottom left square of the four quadrant political compass.

For the longest time I thought anarchism meant "no political structure" but it is a lot more nuanced and I became more sympathetic to the ideas after a bit of reading. I still think the best form of government would be some kind of anarcho syndicalism but I'm skeptical as to its practicality.

I have trouble comprehending how an anarchy can be sustained over a period of time.

Why?

As soon as one person has more resources than another person, how can that person be stopped from using those resources to leverage power, essentially becoming a rudimentary governing body?

in theory, collective action would stop this, at least according to some anarchists.

Then wouldn't that be collectivist democratic rule?

In a state of anarchy, someone will rise up, above the rest, and seize power over the weak. While also drawing others to his side. There will always be some form of ruler, it's the nature of Man and animals. And humans out of civilization are animals, and that's how they act. Many of them will seek to take from you

I'd argue that the entire history of our species proves otherwise. Civilization has been trending towards equality and nonviolence in most of the world, but talking about, for example, how we should have no police force and communities should all police themselves is just asinine and foolish.

Why not Catalonia or any other number of communes that existed until some external force violently suppressed it?
