I've had my iPhone 5s for 3 years now and the battery has become pretty bad. I'm looking to most likely get an Android phone this time since it's easier to play around and make an app for Android.

Anyway...I basically only use my smartphone for calls,texts and browsing the web. I don't really need or care about having the most amazing and newest specs or camera and whatnot. I don't want a shitty phone but I don't need to absolute newest stuff.

I also don't feel like shelling out ~$700 or paying ~$30 monthly for a new phone. Would it be in my best interests to just look for a last year's model type thing? How much money would that save me?

You could easily get an iPhone SE, which would be the perfect upgrade for your 5s. It's essentially an iPhone 6s in a 5s body.

That could be an option. I only really wanted an iPhone originally because I wanted one to work on apps for work. Now that I have the 5s I can just keep using that for work and then get whatever phone I wanted. I was leaning towards Android because after developing on mobile devices for a few years now I started to prefer Android.

under $300 unlocked, it's fast, has a solid camera, etc. it's getting great reviews too. Everything you need. I spent like $700 on my iphone 7 and I regret it because now I'm stuck with like $30 bucks a month extra tacked onto my already super high phone bill. goddamn i hate smartphones
