They're blaming the wrong thing. They should be blaming their shitty overbooked policy. And if they keep their shitty overbooked policy, work better on how to do incentives. Forcefully getting people to "volunteer" out of their seat is like one of the worst things you can do for bad PR.

I really hope this is all sarcasm.

Ok tbh I can't walk away from this topic letting people think I believe any of that stupid shit and I need to go to bed soon. Honestly I'm surprised a few people aren't sharp enough to see through such a blatantly obvious shitpost. I mean, that post was bleeding with blatantly unapologetic bait. Come on guys... I copied half of that from a YouTube comments section shitpost. Minimum effort.

On topic, I wish that poor bastard could sue them into bankruptcy.

Don't bait the hook if you can't fight with the catch.

I can't sleep well with a guilty conscience homie. I just wanted to make people chuckle, I never expected anyone to actually take that seriously lol.

I just hope every racist youtube comment I ever read had the same notion.

It's why a lot of airlines won't due it when you are seated. Because people are less likely to turn it down if they are waiting outside before it's time to board the plane. When somebody is already sitting down in the plane.. It's even harder to convince them to give up their seat. Not to mention it's not really the people's faults for the Airline fucking up and over booking or not having a few seats for their employees.

This entire thing could have easily have been headed off really early. "Oh shit, 4 or 6 employees don't have seats. What do to we do?"
"Just reserve 5 or so seats for them.."
Problem solved.

You're right and you make good points, but to be fair, your last point doesn't always work that way. Employees in the airline industry are constantly shuffled around due to "unforeseen" circumstances. Flight delays due to weather, flight delays due to equipment malfunctions, flight cancellations due to a crew reaching their maximum allotted hours required by law during a certain time period and are no unable to fly, etc. etc.

It's a complicated and expensive industry, but I'm not saying what happened with United should be excused. They will and are getting bad PR and will likely pay for it.

Can some one sum up for me why this airplane kerfuffle is news right now? From what I've gathered it sounds like a man was asked to get off a plane, he refused, so they removed him. Sounds fair to me.

United needed to fly four of its employees, so they asked passengers that had already bought their tickets and were sitting on the plane to volunteer to leave. Nobody accepted the shitty offer of $800 so they decided to send in police officers to go in and forcibly remove a 69 year old doctor.

http://cdn.bgr.com/2017/04/united-passenger-removed.png?w=375&h=220&crop=1

Yeah, that looks "fair" to me too.

They weren't even following their own policies on compensation when they capped compensation at 800$.

Know your rights for involuntary bumping
*If you are bumped involuntarily and the airline arranges substitute transportation that is scheduled to get you to your final destination (including later connections) within one hour of your original scheduled arrival time, there is no compensation.

*If the airline arranges substitute transportation that is scheduled to arrive at your destination between one and two hours after your original arrival time (between one and four hours on international flights), the airline must pay you an amount equal to 200% of your one-way fare to your final destination that day, with a $650 maximum.

*If the substitute transportation is scheduled to get you to your destination more than two hours later (four hours internationally), or if the airline does not make any substitute travel arrangements for you, the compensation doubles (400% of your one-way fare, $1300 maximum).

*If your ticket does not show a fare (for example, a frequent-flyer award ticket or a ticket issued by a consolidator), your denied boarding compensation is based on the lowest cash, check or credit card payment charged for a ticket in the same class of service (e.g., coach, first class) on that flight.

Pretty sure this practice isn't unique to United, and isn't anything new. Not sure why you would try to avoid them now. Basically a video of it was released, that's why yer avoiding them a video.

The issue isn't about United overbooking, that is a common practice in airlines. Its the fact that they didn't ask fro volunteers to be bumped until everyone was on the plane and then when one of the involuntary bumping occurred and the man wouldn't get off the security called in didn't follow procedures. The security guy that actually yanked the passenger out of the chair and caused the busted lip was suspended.

United isn't really responsible for what the airport security guy did, but their shit response by talking about "accommodating" him and the CEO basically denying anything was done wrong is a PR nightmare. They should have never boarded the plane and increased the incentives to get volunteers instead of max offering $1000 - which is on the extreme low end when a normal compensation is 400% of your ticket.

Stupid. Even if it was the case, the only video of the situation is the cops smashing a guy's face against an armrest because of your shoddy business practices. Apologize, compensate the guy and shut up. Don't prolong your stay in pr hell.

Yeah, finally. After the first two statements the issued in which they attacked the passenger for being belligerent. They don't care about anything except money; you hit the nail right on the head.

This is a practice that is somewhat common in the industry, unfortunately. Most of the time things do not transpire to what we've witnessed in this incident. I'm sure the airline regrets what has happened (too little too late, though)

I'm not an aviation expert, but I do know that airlines operate under small margins and consistently overbook flights to compensate for no shows. Jet fuel alone on any given flight costs thousands.

so when people post those pictures of them being the only ones on the entire planes is that like a financial nightmare for the airline company or is there other things that need to be transported like cargo or employees
