Current Events > Would I appreciate Far Cry 4 more if I played 3 first?

I have a copy of Far Cry 3... but I doubt this laptop can run it. They gave it away on Uplay last year. I also have Blood Dragon on there, and they gave it away on Xbox too.

I do have Far Cry 4 on PS4, I bought it because it was cheap on a sale... but should I wait until I make my PC, later this year? Play 3 first?

Don't care too much about 1/2, I'm not OCD, just curious. I would just play 4, but I technically have a copy of 3, so it's not silly.

Honestly 4 is just the exact same game on a new map, with added content, and a less interesting antagonist.
You'll probably enjoy it more having not played 3 considering 4 is just 3.5

If you play FC3 first, then it would probably feel like you are playing it again when you play 4. I enjoyed both of the games, but they're pretty much the same game just reskinned from an island setting to a mountainous setting.

Far Cry 3 was recently added to Xb1 BC. Since they already gave it away on UPlay, maybe they'll throw me a bone if I'm patient.

Far Cry 3 was pretty mind blowing back when it came out (I had not followed it so I had no idea what to expect).

Far Cry 4 was highly disappointing based on my time with 3.

Having said that, as others have said you'll probably enjoy 4 more than most since you HAVENT played 3. The villian made 3 great, and 4's villian sucks. The gameplay is largely unchanged though, save a few new ways to traverse the map in 4.

It's just that it is a Trials game rather than a Far Cry game

4 is the best out of the 3 new ones imo. Has a lot of UI/quality of life improvements over 3. And I know some people don't like the villain and some of the friendly characters but I thought the story was good.

Primal is fun but the novelty of the setting can wear off quick. Plus I already had a giant bear and a saber tooth tiger like 8 hours in so the jungle wasn't very scary anymore. They added a survival mode with a permadeath option but you can still only have one save file so it's stupid as fuck. Not gonna delete my 45% normal mode save to play a permadeath mode. So I never finished it.

3, 4 and Primal all only allow 1 save file if that's what you're asking about

I never played 3, played 4 and really enjoyed it. Ended up getting the plat.

As stated here and other places, it seems most people who enjoy 4 are ones like me who never played 3 since they're the same game supposedly. But yeah, FC4 was really fun.

I can't stand the characters in 3, so 4 gets the nod for me. There is absolutely no reason you'd need to play 3 first.

Far Cry 2 is probably my favorite though, although I absolutely hate how you unlock weapons in the game.

4 has finer tuned mechanics that you'll miss if you play it first.

3 is alright. Only the ending sucked a little but the game play is awesome. I miss hunting on 3 it was fun I would literally hunt every kind of animal for hours.

Only major knock on 4 for me is that the arena is boring as hell and takes far too long if you want to unlock that signature assault rifle. Everything else about the gameplay is the same or slightly better than FC3, IMO.

I will say, like a few others have, that I think Far Cry 2 is much better than either 3 or 4.

Pity they forgot to make it fun.

Yeah constantly respawning enemies and having to stop whatever youre doing to get pills all the time while every character in the plot is a 2D asswipe with less depth than spoon sure is "Gritty"

But it's just a badly designed game and terrible story.
