Hope it compares to Chrono Trigger or at least Phantasy Star 4. Those are the games it is inspired by right?

Yep. Those are the two main games. The same devs made Breath of Death 7, Cthulhu Saves the World, and Penny Arcade 3 & 4.

They've built their games predominantly with the philosophy that JRPGs are fun but long drawn out battle suck and they have way too much grinding.

Their previous games have a limited number of encounters (after defeating a certain amount, enemies just "turn off") and the longer the battle goes on the stronger the enemies get until you die so you have a huge incentive to kill them all as fast as possible.

I hope it ends up being a solid game. I was so hyped for it during crowdfunding but it kind of dropped off the map (although, I guess you could say it was never really on the map for the most part).

The developer has been pretty strict with the game, and not many people wanted to cover it for some reason. Not sure why. I think a lot of time was wasted working on Vita / PS4 ports.

Damn, was looking at this earlier and was intrigued by the concept alone.

Two of my favorite old school jrpgs and a decent developer (I enjoyed PA3, even if it was a little unbalanced)...gonna have to get it now.
