Called in sick yesterday, manager on the phone told me I needed a doctor's note. I was like, "kay," and we hung up, though I never had any intention of wasting my time or a doctor's time with minor bullshit.

Can't bring myself to care that much, I've been planning on leaving before the next two months due to a career I've been working on, it'd just be a bit premature is all. That and the shit retail job I've been at has declined rapidly since management changed and it's ran by a bunch of assholes now anyway.

I thought doctors hated it when people ask them for notes. It is a waste if their time and there is the possibility of you contracting something worse there.

When I had my surgery the doctor told me they don't even do notes anymore. My work had to call the hospital

It is. My work used to not care about notes, but now they apparently do. As I said, a lot has changed at my work for the worse.

Yeah here it was just a case of "only get a note if you want it to be classed sick leave otherwise you'll need to work back hours"
"Uh, I normally stay an hour or two late each day anyway, I'm owed like 2 solid weeks. Take it frm that. "

Tell the doctor to bill your workplace for the note. That might make them think twice about wasting everyone's time.

That said I can see the employer requesting notes if sick time is asked too often.

Yeah, it's understandable in that case. I hardly call in. Last time I did was back in August, I think, and it was for a recurring monthly ear infection.

We only need a note if we miss 3 or more days consecutively. We also would need one if we had something highly contagious as we do personal care. We would need a note saying we are cleared to return to work.

No manager said anything to me. One of the customer service gals did talk to me and said how she overheard what happened and that it was bullshit. Said not everyone requires a doctor's note, only those who call in a lot, and said that it's really rare that I call in at all and if I'm pressed for the note, to talk to the store manager.
