Was certainly surprising news to wake up to. My last 2 years of school are getting covered under this so that's nice. How quick/slow you think other states will be to do something like this?

I'd assume not as well. Small steps though.

Me? The colleges I went to don't seem to think so, because I've been selflessly breaking my bank for the last 5 years to pay them back for my useless degree.

The budget approved Sunday also includes provisions allowing the ride-hailing apps Uber and Lyft to expand upstate and a juvenile justice reform known as “raise the age” that would raise the age of adult criminal responsibility from 16 to 18.

After years of failed attempts, Uber and Lyft finally would be able to move into upstate cities such as Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester and Albany. The ride-hailing apps have been limited to the New York City area but are expected to begin service upstate 90 days after the budget is approved.

ABOUT FUCKING TIME NEW YORK. Jesus christ the lack of any service like that in Upstate NY has pissed me off for years

It was only 6k per year in CUNY. That's not outrageous lol. This is great though

Eh, that's in state tuition so fair enough, but I was also talking about real colleges.

New York actually did have some of the lowest in state tuition in the country before this. Glad they weren't alright with just that.

If you're going to make it free, make it free for everyone. College isn't cheap, not even for families making over 100k a year.

Swing and a miss. They should have included trade schools too. Stop demonizing blue collar.

EDIT: But at least there's a GPA minimum, so it's "free" but they still have to try, which is good.

I'd call it more than overlooked. When people say that a college degree is the new high school diploma, they're basically comparing trade school graduates to drop-outs.

sadly while this is good

it is also bad

eventually a b.s. will be as worthless as a high school diploma and you will be required to have masters to get a job

it is what happens when availability is opened up

again not saying this shouldn't have happened and it will take some time as free doesn't mean everyone actually graduates

but eventually

Only if that's the way you take it. I see it as a compliment because they didn't spend 4 years + thousands of dollars (on average) for an HS degree equivalent. Trade schools are a better alternative at that point.

Hopefully only for public institutions. I can see a bunch of for-profit schools popping up to take advantage of the influx of state funding.
