So, I was watching classic episodes of Samurai Jack today, including the episode with the Tri-seraquins. During this episode, when Jack is handed over to Aku, the glass ball he's in is cracked and begins to fill with water.

Each time it shows him, the ball quickly fills up. The camera will cut away, and when it comes back the ball is still filling, but has nowhere near as much as it should considering how fast it was going. In real time, the ball would have filled up in seconds, but due to camera cuts it takes a good few minutes.

This kind of thing always bothers me in tv shows, and I wanted to look up other instances of it occurring. But I can't think of the trope name.

Could anyone help out? I hope I've explained it well enough...

No. It's more a case of bad editing, where it looks like the hero will die, but it's prolonged for dramatic effect.

Imagine the hero tied to a bomb. The timer is ticking down. 10, 9, 8...

Then the camera switches to the sidekick, fighting of some villains. Back to the bomb: 8, 7, 6...

Cut to the main villain laughing. He goes on a huge rant about how the hero will never survive. Back to the bomb: 6, 5, 4...

Sidekick punches villains and runs toward the hero. This scene takes about thirty seconds. Back to the bomb: 4, 3...

Is tgere a trope like this in regards to reaction time? For example man X is fighting thugs while we cut to a quick shot of man Y pointing his gun at X. Now we have a three second shot of X fighting while Y has been standing there with his gun drawn.

Part of that sounds like the "Talking is a free action" trope.
