Mobile GPU tech has gone completely bonkers in the last few years - It makes me wonder at what point the diminishing returns of high end GPU advancement will make portable devices seem relatively on par consoles (especially when not outputting at 4K).
I'm not saying Mario Kart 8 is the best looking game in the world, but the fact that a tiny-ass tablet can run it at 1080p 60fps is really nuts. 4K will probably the realm of standalone GPUs and high-end hardware for a long while, but at 1080p I can't help but think that we no longer really need dedicated hardware beyond the scope of what portables can handle. --- Physician [Internal Medicine] ... Radiant Dawn was the hard one on GC. Not to mention FE games being the same is pretty much false. Something like the PS5 will probably have a few models and form factors. If it's easy to scale games across several configurations (which both Sony and Microsoft are already doing this generation) then the next obvious thing is to make a tablet/portable version of it. What Impresses me is that the Switch is only $300 while stilll being comparable to high-end tablets for gaming. The main reason is probably the limited 32GB storage....but games come on carts and SD cards are inexpensive and games run very fast from flash memory...faster than off an HDD in most cases.

SD cards are the way forward for physical media for gaming. a 256GB SD card is something like $15 off of newegg, and last I checked, a BD disc can only hold 50GB.

I can barely find a comfortable way to play my 3DS for an hour. Nor do I need elaborate games when I'm traveling; even Nintendo acknowledged this by making every 3DS game playable by short bursts (see Paper Mario SS fiasco, Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Party, RE:Revelations etc.). I haven't given a shit about this yet-another-gimmick for a nintendo console from the initial announcement. I wouldn't need to play W3 or any other PS4 games on a portable small screen, either ... Some of those games, Etrian Odyssey to mention one are as hardcore as it gets. There's a new SMT game (possibly SMT5) that'll come probably early next year which will be a Switch exclusive too. ...
