I enjoyed it.

I hear they're going to do Godzilla vs. Kong which kinda makes me sad because both monsters seem to be good.

They're animals. They can fight without one of them being the villain.

I was actually kinda hoping from the trailer that they were making Kong the bad guy this time around.

I guess it's forgivable that someone new to the series might make that assumption, but Mothra's always been a noble monster. Even in her solo film, she only acted in the course of trying to rescue some abducted fairies. It's kinda like expecting Batman and Superman to team up against Wonder Woman.

Godzilla's adversary, the one that was teased in Skull Island, is a three-headed dragon which spits lightning named King Ghidorah. And, yeah, it's pretty standard for Godzilla to team up against said foe.

Actually, now that I think about it, that contest is almost inevitable. They'll go with the obvious Three Kings reference.

Yes, Kong is supposedly young and was growing. Being set in 1973, he'll probably be a lot bigger in the present day whenever they have him fight Godzilla.

It's kinda weird seeing a King Kong story where him climbing the Empire State Building and 'beauty killed the beast' isn't a thing. He'll be way too big by now lol. I'm surprised they didn't even have it as a backstory for Skull Island or something.

I do hope Godzilla vs King Kong turns out to be just that and not some "fight for like 5 minutes and then become friends to fight a bigger bad". The after credits scene in Skull Island was basically a preview for Godzilla 2, so King Ghidorah should be taken care of there and then King Kong shows up for the VS

It was ok to watch. I'd not go out of my way to watch it again but it was a standard monster movie. It's funny that even with today's tech the original Kong won't ever be topped. Same with godzilla, when the ideas were new.

I loved it.

I hated the baddie monsters (basically nothing bipedal is long instead of tall; I guess they were going for the T-Rex look but it doesn't actually look anything like) but Kong ruled and the film's directing was just super amazing, barring that scene where the 40's dude passes the sword to Loki... and the fact that Loki looks like he just wandered onto the set.

I actually kept thinking Loki was gonna end up having some crazy plot twist because not only is tlhe the only thing in the film's intro thst isn't dripping with 70's but they did that ominous over-his-shoulder shot on the ship too. But no, he apparently just wanted to wear a T-shirt instead of his costume.

Also, the oddly 90's feel to the directing in the intro felt weird af but once they got to the island it made sense because I realized they got you thinking temporally to set you up for the reveal that time simply hasn't passed here. It was bizarre but effective.

its been a long time but IIRC isn't that basically Ghidorah's classic origin? Didn't aliens or something trick humans into trapping Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan somehow before letting Ghidorah loose to conquer Earth? Which caused the humans to realize 'we dun goofed' so they freed the three and let them fuck Ghidorah's shit up as a team.

I think I'm mixing multiple movies up now that I'm looking it up

Basically Loki and Captain Marvel end up captured by Monarch only to find out the black Walking Dead assistant to Goodman has taken over and they're being recruited.

Then they start talking about other MUTO and show ancient rock drawings of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah and one with Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and they're like "they're out there and we have to find them" and then you hear Godzilla's iconic scream.

It was ALLLLL the way at the end. Like everyone in the theater left thinking it wasn't happening except me and this other guy who stuck it out.

Yeah, but you got the gist of it.

Ghidrah: The Three-Headed Monster had Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan teaming up against Ghidorah. Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero had Earth lending Godzilla and Rodan over to another planet only to be betrayed when they placed all three monsters under mind control and set them loose on Japan.

Skull Island was a fun, high budget B-film that makes for a great popcorn flick.

Jackson's Kong attempted to be an epic like the original but it got bogged down by its pretty poor pacing and prolonged dull moments.

I'd say that Jackson's Kong at its best moments was better than Skull Island, but averaged out I'd unequivocally say that Skull Island was a better film and expeirence overall. That being said, I do appreciate the higher reach of Jackson even if he did fall well short.
