It's 2017. Automatic is the standard. Manual hasn't been common in decades.

In america maybe.

I can. I can drive a manual car, 18 gear semi's and motorcycles. It's all quite easy if you aren't stupid and have even a slight amount of co-ordination.

What's the upside? Fuel efficiency gap narrowed a while ago from what I know.

Basically I'm not an elitist so I take the easier and wiser option.

Cheaper to buy

Cheaper to maintain(no Transmission fluid, if an automatic transmission breaks, it is thousands of dollars to fix, and it wont ever run right again)
Better gas mileage
Faster than automatics(standards are direct drive, automatics use ATF to drive them, there is always fluid slippage, so they don't work as efficiently )

That's not true. They're typically MORE expensive.

In america maybe.

Imagine the elitism when a standard is a car you actually control, and an automatic is self-driving.

Even in Canada the automatics are more expensive. When I bought my Mustang in 06, the exact same model and trim as the one I got with an automatic transmission was $2,200 more.

I've pretty much never seen automatics sell cheaper than manuals. Was the same with my Jeep Wrangler that I bought in 2014.
