In early 2016, Warner Bros. announced plans for a shared universe of new animated films based on various Hanna-Barbera characters, starting with S.C.O.O.B., a reboot of the Scooby-Doo film series, scheduled for theatrical release on September 21, 2018.

wtf

DC Comics announced a comic book initiative titled Hanna-Barbera Beyond, to re-imagine some of the company's classic cartoons into some darker and edgier settings. The first comic books on the line are Future Quest, Scooby Apocalypse, The Flintstones and Wacky Raceland. New titles arrived in March 2017 crossing over with the DC Universe.

To be fair, it could just be a working title. I mean, it's possible that somebody might realize that's a really, really, really bad name.

Of course, the concept is pretty bad anyway. Part of a larger organization? I don't think that would fit something like this. They'd be better off saying that for something like Secret Squirrel.

Personally, I find greater fault with them making Scrappy a villain. I don't think fan hate should be fed like that. Either reimagine the character so that he works or leave the character out.

That said, I completely approve of making the monsters real.

Of course, the Scooby Doo movie was from 2001, so I guess the hatred for Scrappy must have been there before. Some houses had internet in the 1990s and some didn't. I'd say 2000 was probably the turning point where most households had it. I just have a hard time seeing the character being so hated by 2001 that it actually influenced the film. Maybe the filmmakers hated Scrappy and it retroactively influenced audiences?

I don't know. Scrappy was far from the most annoying animated character though.

Nah he was hated. A lot of characters like him (a new 'trendy' fad-like character inserted into an established show to try and make it popular again) were hated. It was pretty common in the 80's IIRC.

Scooby-Doo is a "smart dog" prototype, who is able to talk like a human being, thanks to a chip that was implanted in his cerebral cortex. This enables him to communicate with others, either by words or through the use of a pair of emoji-goggles.

The new HB projects sound fantastic! I don't know what everyone is so afraid of? Personally I look forward to Dax Shepard writing and directing a movie about a lab rat dog with emoji glasses.
