What's wrong with Kaspersky? I've had no problems ever. Though I haven't really had issues without it either.

It has strange Russian intelligence ties:

They use software libraries with old vulnerabilities, screw with Windows functions and cause errors, etc

The "common sense" argument for no AV is completely and utterly stupid, just a FYI, TC.
Also, Bitdefender is amazing.

How's Norton, these days? I heard it vastly improved after 2008.

It wasn't, and is laughed at.

Says otherwise.

the tests are all bought and paid for though, the entire AV testing community is essentially "pay us a couple hundred thousand and we'll do the exact test you want, while testing your competitors in the exact way you want". No AV should be getting perfect scores, but they do. Say Symantec are coming out with an AV that gets a score of 100%, you can be damn sure that Symantec were the ones who designed the test. There are no "independent" testers, as they all need to get funding from somewhere and the only people funding them are the AV companies themselves.

Had my current PC for 4 years and never had antivirus/anti malware software on it.
Never had a virus. MAYBE there's some malware in the background that I'm unaware of, but I've never had an account stolen, nor my credit card info stolen, so whatever is there isn't really that malicious.
