I recently picked up 1.5+2.5 after not playing the numbered games since release. I've never played any of the non numbered titles. I'm trying to play every game in the correct order. I'll pick up 2.8 when I finish this collection since apparently that's the right order?

I've been playing KH1.5 for a week and I'm just now getting to Neverland. I want to beat all secret bosses before moving on to the next game. Idk if I'm going to bother with the perfect ending because fuck collect a thins.

I know that Unchained X is important to the plot of back cover, but there's no fucking way I'm playing that God awful mobile game. I'll read a synopsis for it.

It seems that it just kinda introduces the foretellers in relation to the events prior to the keyblade war

Depends on your level of completionist. Assuming you don't want a perfect file, the longest games are KH 2 then KH 1. They're both in the 60+ hour range to 100% on your first playthru. Chain of Memories and Re:Coded are both pretty short, other than Re:Coded taking forever to unlock the hidden dungeon (relies on the DS version of Streetpass and takes forever if you don't have a second system). Days and DDD were around the 25 hour mark for me. Not played BBS yet :/

Note those times are all on their original systems. Not played the PS2 version of CoM or the 1.5 &2.5 versions so IDK how different they are. God, I need to get a PS4 already so I can get all the Final Mixes

CoM and BBS are the only ones actually playable in 1.5 + 2.5. The other 2 are just long movies of their cutscenes.

You'll have to buy a 3DS/DS (assuming you don't have one already) to actually "play" Days and Coded.

As for just getting through the main stories for each, they're generally shorter.

I have a 3ds, how good is the 3ds game? Is it like 1&2 and is there much side content?

They're not spinoffs! They're additional stories that make the relate to the main storyline and make it way more convoluted and are spread throughout 5 fucking different gaming systems!

Which is why I refused to play them until now.

Coincidentally, I just picked up Okami for the first time last weekend. Playing it on the Wii U.

If you have a 3DS you can play Days, Re:Coded, and Dream Drop Distance.

Days is interesting and kinda fun, but the story ended up being a goddamn mess that was completely unnecessary except like the last 5 minutes. Play it if you like EXTREMELY mission oriented games, but realize it doesn't have the open world-eqsue exploration of any of the other games. EDIT: One fun thing tho is you can play as most of Organization XIII as you progress and every character has a dramatically different playstyle.

Re:coded is fun as shit but is pretty much just a rehash of KH1 with like 5 minutes of new content. Honestly, tho, it was the most fun of all the non-numbered games for me. Just really tight gameplay with some really fun new mechanics. I LOVED Traverse Town's new boss sequence.

DDD was... Something else. It didn't click for me. Story was some next level meta bullshit trying to tie up the series' like 1000 loose ends. Mechanically its probably the tightest game in the series so far, but the flaws just dragged it down in my opinion.

My overall suggestion would be to skip all three, unless you just want some KH fun. Play Re:Coded for the fun value in that case. Otherwise just get the recaps from the 1.5 and 2.5 versions.

It's an action game that is also a card game and that sounds like it makes no sense and be terrible because that's exactly what it is.

like, every time you press A, you draw a card and that's what happens. And like 90% of your deck is "keyblade strike" so the whole fucking thing is pointless

The PS2/collection version of Chain of Memories isn't that bad. The card system is weird, but not hard to get used to. You control pretty similarly to KH1.

Don't get DDD for the 3DS if you're planning to get 2.8. The bulk of 2.8's content is just a port of DDD. It's that, a separate story about the length of one world, and a movie.

Don't go into it expecting much and you might enjoy it. I did, but I'm unusual.

~CoM is shorter than KH1, for sure. The card system isn't for everyone, but I really liked it towards the end when you get amazing attacks.

~Days is just a movie in the HD sets, but the DS game itself is pretty damn long. It's mission-based and the plot kinda takes forever, imo. The writing and story is really good (the best the series has offered, tbh), but if you don't want to push through 40-50 hours of missions and non-voiced cutscenes, just watch the movie. Plus, the gameplay is kinda eh, because of the DS's limitations. Out of all games, this one would've prospered from a fullblown console remake.

~BbS is a main game. It's about as long as KH1, though it's broken up between 3 characters, each of which have like a 12-hour long compaign. So added up it equals out to KH1's overall playtime. It's really fun, imo.

~coded is also a movie, and the game itself is kinda fillery. I wouldn't really recommend playing thr DS game, even though the gameplay is kinda fun at certain parts.

~DDD is also a main game, and acts as a prologue to KH3. So along with BbS, this is one of the main games you must play.

~x/Unchained x/x Back Cover/Union x... The mobile game is whatever. The plot is interesting enough, but the game is crap just because you need to pay actual money to get items that actually make you good. Otherwise, you're just fucking around hoping you can beat higher-level enemies. The movie in the HD set is pure filler, imo -- it didn't explain anything we didn't already know, and this is coming from someone who was really looking forward to watching it. There will hopefully be recap thing in KH3 that covers this stuff, so you shouldn't feel bad about skipping it. Otherwise, just look up a synopsis, yeah.

2.8 has the recap for this game, I thought.

It has "x Back Cover," which is a movie that takes place during the same time as "Unchained x," but it's from a different perspective and the stuff that happens isn't actually shown in "Unchained x." It's like if there was a movie about what Riku was doing in KH1. In the end, though, the movie was entirely pointless save for the final scene.
